AnyMovie Pass users?

Good People,

I'd heard of this service before, but didn't give it a second thought until today. It's a service that allows you to see anywhere from two to "unlimited" movies per month for a monthly fee, with no apparent blackout dates or major restrictions.

The costs vary depending on where you live. Here in NYC the unlimited pass is a paltry $50/month, which seems beyond ridiculous to me considering most movies hover at$16 each. And so I thought I'd see if anyone had experience with the service. Even if I only saw three movies a month it would pay for itself, but it seems too good to be true.

Website: https://www.moviepass.com/tiers

Anyone have experience? I'm tempted to try no matter what, as fifty bucks is a few drinks at a bar, but not if it comes with insane hoops that are not readily seen on the site.

That doesn't look too good to be true at all. $50 per month subscription fee for movies? $600 per year for one person on movies? That's easily $500 more than they're getting out of me currently.

Also, FYI, 16 x 3 = 48, which is less than 50.

No personal experience, but a cursory internet search makes it seem pretty legit. Can't watch the same movie multiple times, though

Seems like it would only appeal to people who love movies in general and who will watch anything. I don't think there are 3-4 must-see movies coming out every single month, so I wouldn't get too much use out of it

Can't see a movie multiple times is a weird condition.

This is an old review but I'd check the red tape.

When I was younger this would have been a great thing for me, for sure. I used to see at least a movie a week.

I'm pretty sure this deal doesn't include 3D movies either. And most of the showings near me are almost all exclusively 3D. THe blockbusters that is.

Thanks for the replies, y'all. I think I'm going to subscribe in the fall, once the lunacy of summer settles down. That review was from a few years ago, and it seems that they've corrected all the (legitimate) beefs outlined in that review.

Supposedly it covers just about every theater, which includes all the artsy-fartsy ones I like to frequent. I could see this not being of use if you didn't have access to anything but blockbusters (or if you're a cheapskate like Keck). But man, for access to a viewing of something on my way home from work/the gym/etc whenever I want? $50/month is chump change.

3D is a non-issue for me. I avoid that shit like the plague.

I'm amazed anyone has the time to see 40 theater movies a year and think that's a deal.

RISE! Rise, and breathe again, long dead thread!

The prices have changed for MoviePass, with it being $10 per month for up to a movie a day. I subscribed August 18 and have seen 26 movies and it is awesome. Highly recommend. Definitely worth it. Depending on the prices of the theaters you go to, all you'd need to do is see 1-2 movies a month for this to be worth it for you.

The only downside would be if you are the type that prefers 3D or IMAX, as those are not included.

The last movie I saw at a theater was, I think, Man of Steel.

Yeh, definitely worth it if you literally have nothing better to do than see 26 movies in 2 months.... Jesus Christ.

Heh, there is always something I could be doing. I just go watch a movie instead of TV or gaming.

This is one of those things where it seems like a great deal but I'd end up spending way more on movies in the year than I do currently.

Gawtdamn. If I had the time I'd totally do this (especially considering I brought it up originally). I hope it's around in two years, when I'm out of school. I can't imagine taking advantage of this until then.
