The missus and I got our cards yesterday, and tonight decided to have an impromptu movie experience. MP did not fail, super easy. Only weird you have to be close to the theater to activate.

My sister and now Dad have movie passes. Not being able to buy tickets before the day of seems annoying when it's busy.

It is, but man. There are at least four theaters within walking distance to me that take it, from art houses to blockbuster places. That's a minor trade off IMO for the price.

Yeah, it seems like it would be. And my brother in law was able to find a ticket to Star Wars opening night, so maybe it's fine.

I wish there was a theater closer to school. I'd watch something in-between classes!

Keck, you gotta get one. It's awesome because I'll see things I would waited for, and it's a great last-minute thing to do.

We got this for as Christmas present this year. The only negative I have for it so far is that none of the theaters in the valley support eticketing with MoviePass, so I lose out on a couple weeks of movies while waiting for the card to show up.

Sorry, that is annoying. I do know that they state that they won't bill the second month until the first time you use it to accommodate the delivery time of the cards, so there's that at least.

I got mines last week of December. Used it three times like a champ.
Star Wars, was going to see regardless.
Justice League, was going to let it pass.
Jumanji, was going to let it pass.

I like that it's getting me to see stuff I would otherwise ignore. Need to step up my not buying concession game. $5 for a bottle of water is horrid. I do like me some popcorn tho.

Popcorn is rarely worth eating at all.

I would have passed on Jumanji, too. I was surprised and actually loved it. Hilarious!

I bring a bottle of water and candy with me to help skip concessions. For the popcorn, the easiest way to get over that is do what I did: buy the $35 refillable bucket. You get tired of it pretty quick.

I was looking at that but I was like, that seems a bit much. I normally grab a kids or a small. I recently started back bringing my own water. I can't do candy anymore. Might bring a bag of nuts or some trail mix.

Dried mango and salted peanuts is my favorite sneak-in theater food. And a bottle of water. If it's a dopey movie, and the theater is big enough, a couple of friends and I will bring in a six pack of beer.

I just don't even feel the need for any kind of snacks or drinks at the movie theater. Do people have trouble playing video games for a couple hours without a water bottle and some snickers?

Dried mango is so good. I recently bought some dried persimmon at a farmer's market in San Diego and it was nearly as delicious.

Huh. I think I ate some persimmon once. Can't remember much about it. But it doesn't strike me as mango-like.

No, it has its own flavor, but it was good. I had one once here in Minnesota and it was disgusting, but the fresh ones in Cali were delicious and the dried were quite tasty. They don't travel well.

So I went to a movie with a friend today and they had just gotten their MoviePass. We went to see Jumanji (which was unexpectedly good!) and it worked just fine for them, especially as this movie has been out for a little while so we had no problem getting decent seats 15 minutes before the movie.

Since it seemed too good to be true I did some research into how this is a feasible idea. In short, it's not feasible at the moment and it's less feasible the more popular they are! Moviepass pays the theater every penny that a movie ticket would cost so if you see more than $10 worth of movies a month they're losing money on you.

It seems like their goal is to build up a large enough base of loyal customers that they can then use as leverage to make deals with smaller theaters, independent movies, etc, and to try and get big chains to share some profits from the concession sales they wouldn't otherwise have gotten from MoviePass customers.

Will it work? Maybe, maybe not, but might as well make use of the deal while it's there!

What sold me in the end is that our local Alamo Drafthouse is a participating theater.
