Have you considered not watching it anymore?

You may have missed the part where I said I was stubborn.

And, you know, a masochist.

I liked Magicians okay the first season but I felt it gets worse the longer it goes on. I haven not caught up with the current season so I can't comment on it. I agree with civil, Quentin is a terrible character. I should read at least one of the books to see if he is as bad in them.

I thought being a masochist was supposed to have a payoff. Are you edging for the duration of a television season!?

Well, I only watch TV shows at the gym, so...

Padded, tiled, and very very moist.

Just finished Altered Carbon and it's by far the best series Netflix has done. Them not committing to a second season makes me want to read the books even though I generally dislike sci-fi books.

I just finished it tonight as well. I quite enjoyed it overall, although I'm not sure if I liked the changes from the book in general.

If you liked the tone of the show, you'd probably like the books. They definitely captured that feeling very well. One interesting thing about the books is that all three are very different from each other, in setting and tone. I hope they continue with the show, but the way they changed the story will definitely continue taking the show farther away from the books, for better or worse.

It sounds like I'd need to read the first book to pick up the changes then instead of jumping into the second?

If you're going to read the books, definitely read them from the beginning, because there are fundamental differences with the nature of the Envoys (among other things) that will totally confuse you otherwise.

I feel like I am missing something in Altered Carbon. Everyone raves about it but I found it to be the equivalent of an okay SyFy series ( some where between Incorporated and The Expanse). I enjoyed it but found it a bit awkward at times. Like it wanted to be better than it actually was. Of course, I live for mediocre TV series so I am looking forward to a second season.

Oh man, I was gonna maybe watch that next (if I could find a way to avoid people around me seeing all the nudity), but that comparison to a ScFy series is a big ol' red flag for me. No thanks, one Kecky show per year is enough!

I don't have Scyfy, so I can't compare, but I like Altered Carbon a lot. It's both working in a classic detective narrative framework and genuinely posing interesting moral questions that can only exist in the ultra-tech context of the show.

Only bit I don't like is the opening monologues. It undercuts the classic detective tone of the show in a way I don't feel adds to it.

The neo-Catholic aspect is an interesting exploration of religion responding to new innovations. I can't recall seeing the idea addressed well or deeply since Mercerism in Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.

Civil, I'd recommend watching episode one. It'll give you a good indication as to whether you'll enjoy the tone and concepts of the show. Though there is quite a bit of nudity.

It is just one guy's opinion. I stand by it but almost everyone I know likes the show a lot. I do not think it was a bad show and the subject matter was fantastic. It would be worth watching the first episode (as Dav says) to get an idea of what you might like or dislike.

I don't have it either, but the one show i'm watching now (Magicians) and another one I tried watching before have proven to me that the quality I'd want out of an investment isn't there. Again, Magicians is pure stubbornness at this point.

It's a shame about all the nudity, I can't really watch that at the gym (which is where I watch shows). Ah well, maybe this summer I can check it out.

Have you considered getting a VR headset for while you're on the elliptical? Little privacy.

Pervert.

I just finished the season. God, what a challenge that was. I need a palette cleanser, so my choices are:

Torchwood
Comrade Detective
Downton Abbey
Victoria (I miss Jenna!)

Torchwood is an obvious yes, but I'm not sure I want to dive into that world again (the wounds are still fresh!). I've heard loads about DA, obviously, but I wish I could see a trailer of some sort. CD looks hilarious in that, Darkplace way. And Victoria has Jenna, my heart of hearts.

Anyone see any of the above and have leanings? I do all my watching at the gym, so I had to nix shows that had nudity (regardless of Dav's suggestion).

Torchwood is great, especially Children of Earth and Miracle Day (the 3rd and 4th seasons). I keep hoping they will make more, but that is looking unlikely.

I also really love Downton Abbey. I never did watch the last season for some reason. I should rectify that soon. I'm sure you could find some sort of trailer on YouTube.

Edit - Actually be wary of looking up Downton Abbey on YouTube. Spoilers galore.

Is DA as addicting as I've heard? I don't know of anyone that has watched it, oddly. At least not that are talking about it.

I suppose I could do both! Every other day a different show (I'm at the gym 4 times/week). I could still burn through both pretty quickly that way.
