Report - Fox In Talks to Sell Entertainment Division to Disney

Another entertainment bombshell may have just dropped.

CNBC is reporting that Fox is in talks to sell much of their entertainment division to Disney. The deal would not include Fox' news or sports divisions, their broadcast network or their local stations, as both sides feel regulators would never let such a deal pass. But the deal would include most or all of Fox' studio and production content. In short, all of the entertainment production and assets would shift to Disney, while the news, sports and broadcast entities would remain with Fox.

The deal would make Disney - already one of the largest and most ubiquitous content creators in the world - even more loaded. The deal is still not imminent, but talks have reportedly been on-and-off for months now.

I'm not knowledgeable enough about anti trust regulators to have a sense of whether this deal would pass if consummated. But it would put even more of our day-to-day media consumption under the Disney banner.

The only thing I'd care about: this would allow for all the X Men and Fantastic Four characters to be in the MCU. Sounds good to me.

Exactly. It'd be nice to have MCU movies have the characters I care most about in them.

This makes sense for Disney if they plan on launching their own streaming service. It would also be the end for Netflix.

Disney is already strong arming theaters over the Last Jedi. Disney is becoming too big, i’m not sure how good this is.

All of these media conglomerates are too big as it is.

The funny thing is that they wouldn't have to worry about the regulators preventing a full buy if they paid the right people. Sinclair is getting away with that shit right now.

/end political rant

Hopefully Disney at least gets the movie arm of FOX. That way we can see X-Men in the MCU(not to mention done RIGHT).

I for one welcome our new Disney overlords.

By the way, Disney is a bunch if assholes:

They banned LA Times from Thor, and future review screenings. There was a backlash and they had to walk it back.

Disney is arguably as bad as EA when it comes to how they have treated game divisions. Warren Spector got short shrift there. They closed down the Infinity line at the first sign of trouble (and largely contributed to the implosion of Toys to Life with the over saturation they introduced). And they've had a number of other seemingly promising projects outright canceled before they ever saw the light of day.

WB has some really good studios. I don't like the idea of Disney being in charge of them.

Bit late for the MCU

I hadn't finished your write up yet but immediately though about anti-trust.

So the question I have, is this going to radically alter phase 4? X-Men and Fantastic 4 movies plus cross-over galore?
