Human Head Reviving Rune with Rune Ragnarok

Game franchises don't die, they just...hibernate. So it's with only mild surprise that we learn Human Head Studios is reviving their old RPG franchise, Rune, for the modern day. Rune: Ragnarok will be a Norse-themed open world RPG where you have to stop the end of the world.

Rune was the game that Human Head made it's bones on around the turn of the century (jeez, that makes it sound soooo long ago), but they've had a rocky road since, with the long-gestating Prey and the gone-before-birth Prey 2. They've pitched in on other franchises such as Batman and Bioshock in recent years, but this seems to be their first title as lead devs in more than a decade. No release window or platforms were announced for Rune Ragnarok.

Oh man, I loved this game (a long time ago)... the quickly forgotten multiplayer was so fun, like Quake (fast, with power pickups) but all melee combat. My office used this for morale boosting after-work LAN parties all the time.

I enjoyed the original. Let's see what they come up with!

I got a copy of this bundled with another game (remember when that was common?) but don't think I ever actually installed it. Here's hoping this turns out well.

Nice! I also loved Rune. Excited to see how this turns out.

I bought the original release week, never could get it running on my computer at the time. I don't think I ever did go back to it with subsequent PCs to play it.
