In Other News...June 24

- Rumors are swirling that Microsoft will release a 1TB hard drive for the Xbox 360 to coincide with the August launch of the new Games on Demand service. No word on how much the drive would cost, but based on the current prices expect it to be expensive.

- Gearbox has made a whole slew of new trademark filings, including: "War Hero," "World War II Hero," "Brother In Arms War Hero," and "Modern War Hero."

- Square Enix is being sued for $5M, claiming "unfair business practices, false advertising and unjust enrichment" in regards to Final Fantasy XI. Apparently someone doesn't understand the concept of "paid subscription."

- Starting this year there will be 10 nominees for best picture at the Oscars instead of 5. The winning movie will still suck.

- Finally, the best review of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (the film, not the game) that you'll ever read.

- Remember, get your submission in for the CoG @ PAX design contest!

The first thing I thought of with those gearbox names was guitar hero but hitting the right notes fires out bullets, and star power lets you throw grenades.

A 1TB drive for the 360 is overkill. That would hold over 100 retail games. 300GB I could see. The 120GB is honestly just fine for everything, though; just get the damn price down.

Me too. I was reading that and chuckling about star power.
Good times.

And concerning the large Harddrive for the 360. Go big or go home. With movies, and games, and saves, they might as well make it huge. In addition if they released it at a good price(cause they are cheap now-89.99 and even lower), though that is not likely, it would be amazing.
On the other hand many platter harddrives scare the hell out of me when it comes to continued use. And the 360 already has its share of faulty hardware.

To increase the amount of back patting and sloppy blowjobs everyone can give each other when they've been nominated. This will also give them the option to add a whole bunch of obscure films for the board to nod sagely while discussing before they give Best Picture to the film that deals with the Holocaust.

Because films like the Dark Knight get left out of the discussion. Is a film that wasn't in the top 6 going to win? No, but it will quell the people complaining that X film didn't get nominated.

All awards shows and organizations suck, and the Oscars is no exception. Any group or person that fails to recognize the epic win that is Gran Torino is utterly dead to me.

And yes Doc, that review of Transformers is great. "You. Do. Not. Leave. The. Cabinet."

I dunno...My PS2 library is well over 100 games, and I -still- buy PS2 games. My 360 collection is around 20.

If they really do release a 1TB drive, I'll be a bit miffed...I JUST bought a 120gb one.

So at the current cost per gigabyte for 360 HDD, a 1TB HDD would cost just over $1,000.

Lmao...I love how insanely priced the HDD are...for the 100 bucks I spent on the 120, I could have ended up with a 500-750gb from Newegg.ca or something.

But yeah, if it's more than 150 bucks for ANY size, I'll pass. Hell, I'll pass until my current begins to fill up...I can fit about 20-25 games on it if I get rid of everything else

So just after Pitchford bitches at Bungie and Infinity Ward to do something new, Gearbox filess for trademarks on games probably aren't any different from what they've made in the past?

It makes sense for Gearbox to get this shit before Activision does. As what are their 2 big franchises? Call of Duty and Guitar Hero.

War Hero is getting all synergistic up in this bitch.

Are we taking guesses as to the price of this new drive? I'd like to officially announce that my guess is $229.99.

Oh, and that review for the transformers lost all credibility with this line:
"So LaBoeuf, who's actually a fine actor..."

I'd probably pick up that drive at any price.

Same, same. But do you need INSTANT access to them at all times? Remember that once a game is purchased, it can be re-downloaded while you sleep/work/play something else/do something else.

I haven't actually seen him in anything other than that terrible Indiana Jones film, so I can't comment on that. He hates the Wii, though, so he can't be all bad.

This is true...unless they start 'cleaning out the coffers' as it were. If you read the fine print, you can pay for then DL it as many times as you want, and even transfer licenses to different HDDs/machines. Only problem is, it's only for as long as the item is available.

It hasn't happened yet, and I honestly doubt it would, but the risk is still slightly there.

Isn't the review a farce? I thought that was the joke.

As far as HD prices, on the 360 they're definitely jacked up, but one other thing to remember is that the 360 uses 2.5" (laptop) drives, which are more expensive than regular 3.5" internal drives. What surprises me about the rumor is that there is no 1TB 2.5" drive; it would have to be some kind of external unit, or external HDD support.

I would honestly love this option. Why? because I own two 360s (I traded in a crap load of DS games and other ones I wasn't playing anymore and used the money to get the arcade version with HDMI support. No HDD because I already had the 120) and if they allowed you to do something like this where you could just plug in a drive, and play your content on another system, I'd love it.

It's really my only complaint...my other 360 kinda sits there now, downstairs, because all my main games have DLC for them (Mass Effect, FO3, etc) and I don't have that on the other system.
