Who do we think you are?

Serapth's frequent allusions to me as a smug tree-hugging vegan hippie freak have had me wondering lately about the perceptions we have of each other 'round these parts, and whether or not we feel the perceptions about ourselves are accurate.

For example, using Serapth's claims as a point of reference: Sure, I'm smug but I also try and temper that with some humility. Tree-hugging? In the sense that I recycle and try and consume as few resources as possible, yeah. But a big no in that I am famous for saying nature looks best through a car window and I can't stand camping or find zero appeal in the outdoors other than the occasional visit and look forward to the days when our populations are all centered around urban areas and we're stacked in 300 story buildings. Vegan? Well, yeah, but I think there's an assumption that because someone eats vegan that they're a peacenik. Hippie? I'm a staunch misanthrope, in the "If it were up to me 95% of humanity would be wiped off the face of the earth because ultimately we're no good" way. But I'm not sure what is meant by hippie anymore.

How do you feel you're perceived in the CoG community (not how you represent yourself) and do you feel that perception is accurate?

I have absolutely no idea how people see me around here, I really don't. I remember being accused on that other site of being far more left-leaning politically than I am, but that's about it.

Part of the problem lies in the fact that forums are not very information rich at all. Compared to verbal or face to face communication, a lot of information is just not there. Add to that the fact that we communicate mostly about games, sometimes about our personal lives, and you can see that not a lot of information about who we are actually has a chance in hell of coming across. And, neither does feedback about what others think of us.

As the poll is showing, I think most people have no clue what others think of them. There are very few people on the site that have garnered some form of reputation that is perceived collectively. I, also, have no idea what CoGers perception of me might be. I know that the folks I game with on Live (nearly all of them CoGers) will have opinions about me as I talk to them on almost a daily basis, but I'm not even sure what that general perception is.

BTW, civil, why are you posting a poll, isn't that Serapth's job? Also, you left out one very important trait of yours; you're the purveyor of mind-scarring cosplay. Never forget that. Oh, and you'll always be civil_dead to me.

I'm supposed to be the house pervert, but I've toned it down a lot since the last site. Starting a family might have some part in that...though I've not toned down one iota in real life. My girlfriend just deals with me and my crude humor. I think I post less these days, so I don't have as much time for the funny or bizarre on these forums, which is too bad.
