Splendidly superfluous

Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (Wii)
I'll change the thread title when we actually have a name, but for now, we'll have to make do with the official artwork that Nintendo refused to show during E3 (image obtained from GoNintendo):
![]() Pretty! ![]() Note that Link is not holding a sword. Miyamoto has said that that is important to the gameplay, but wouldn't elaborate.

The girl is the Master Sword in human form. I'm totally pulling that out of my ass, but it sorta sounds like something they'd do the more I think about it.

I'd be willing to bet, with the change they made in Twilight Princess, that he's now a righty by default.

That definitely seems like something they'd do.

Didn't he say this was an older Link than we've ever seen before? This Link does not look too old.
That seems like a really good point, Gorvi...what about left handed people who play Wii games with intricate swordplay, Wii motion plus stuff? Has anything been said about that?

Nintendo Formula:
Take 1 thing that's a guaranteed money-maker (Game property, game system, control scheme) Create a hot as cheese NEW iteration of it (Zelda, the Wii, The Wiimote) Add one stupid fuck thing that will be annoying, but overlooked because it's mostly awesome, and we've been controlled by flouridated water to accept anything that grinning kindly old Miyamoto decides to whiz out onto our feet. And YES, I'm buying it.

![]() And if you're not, they should make it that way. A companion sword? The opportunity for emotional depth in the game is astounding. |

Are people finally ok with a Link that isn't a pre-pubescent boy?

I think Righty-Link will only be for Wii games that need the Wii-mote to act as a sword. Though if the next Nintendo system continues using the same kind of motion control I could see it continuing. This does look like the same Link from Twilight Princess.
That Link isn't holding a sword in this pic is strong evidence that the girl is the sword. It would be interesting to have a game that delves directly into the history of the sword rather than just have it always present as the ultimate weapon. For some reason the other character looks really familiar, but if it were from a previous Zelda game I'm sure someone else would have figured it out by now. |

Man, I really am going to have to buy a Wii eventually, aren't I? The fact that they supposedly look like ass on a good HDTV has kept me away so far, but my resistance is fading...

I don't think it does. I have a 1080p 52" Bravia and the Wii looks fine. Of course it doesn't look nearly as good as the PS3 or 360, but it doesn't look like ass either. Keep in mind this is coming from someone who still plays a fair amount of games on the PS2, so I'm not one to turn my nose up at content that isn't HD.

It really depends on the game honestly. The games that are highly stylized look great even on HD sets (Punch Out!!, Mario Galaxy, Okami, Metriod Prime 3, are good examples of this). Games that go for a more realistic look tend to look dated and jaggy.

It's not often that Nintendo releases concept art. I can't recall the last time they did it, actually.
Rare and Retro did it in the capacity of second party studios. |
