[E3 09] Miyamoto Casually Mentions New Zelda Wii Game
One of the top Nintendo franchises that was noticeably absent from their E3 press conference this morning was the Legend of Zelda (save for a quick mention of the upcoming DS title, which we already knew about). Nintendo had hinted last year that there was already a new Zelda in the works for the Wii, but it apparently isn't quite ready for primetime. Instead, Miyamoto saw fit to mention it during a developer roundtable this evening, including showing off some artwork (which isn't available for distribution).

See Sony? This is how you mention games that you don't know when they're going to come out.
I mean, not to generate huge amounts of hype, but to be good people. |

So they don't feel a new Zelda's worth a mention (which would have completed the Holy Franchise Trinity for them), but we can watch 15 minutes of presenters struggling with Wii Sports (bow-string sound).
This is why you fail, Nintendo.

This is after the bitching that Nintendo announced Wii Sports Resort too early last year. They can't win for trying.

I could of sworn they mentioned this some time ago (a Wii-specific Zelda being in development)

Yes but does it come with a blow job attachment? The lack of a blow job attachment proves they have no new ideas and how much they suck (or don't suck in this case).

Sounds like it is still in the conceptual stages, probably not a lot to talk about.

Nintendo ought to have mentioned Zelda just to complete this franchise 'trilogy' you've conjured in your head? Are they playing Family Feud? Dodging mention of Zelda Wii at the briefing is what reduced them to failure? Absurd. Anyway, it's worth recalling Miyamoto confirmed Pikmin was in development at the Developer's Roundtable last year. A shame we got nothing new on that. |

Jesus Christ I'm starting to get tired of people crying over that the press conferences was not tailored after heir own tastes. How long is going to be like this on here? I'll go play some meanwhile.

What do you expect Wedge? The three big console companies gave their big speeches for the year, so people will naturally react based on what they hope/expect. Some people really love Zelda, so they want to hear when they're getting another Zelda game, even if it's just come concept art and "We're working on it." Personally, I don't really care about Zelda anymore and wish they'd spend their time working on some new property.

Yeah, I'd also like to see some new Nintendo franchises, especially from the non-Miyamoto staff, who must have learned something from working with the master and also have some new ideas of their own. Though I am curious about a new Zelda game, on the off chance Aonuma will try some new stuff and create the Wii equivalent of Majora's Mask.

I know, this is ridiculous. People are actually complaining that a game that probably wasn't ready to be shown wasn't shown.

The icing on the cake as far as E3 bs goes is the mainstream media. Everyone was showcasing motion controls this year, so naturally...
"Joysticks, button controllers on their way out for gamers" They see all the motion controls, so naturally it must mean that controllers are now an outdated and dying control scheme. I sure as hell hope not. If consoles ever drop controllers, I quit gaming. On-topic: A new Zelda game is never a bad thing, imo. |

Honestly, I don't understand this viewpoint - especially with Microsoft's thing IF IT WORKS. I've never heard more gamers sound like old people complaining about how things were better in the old days.

![]() Not the hardware's fault though (except when it doesn't stop breaking), it's the devs. I mean shit, look at how many crappy looking rail shooters are on the Wii. The GC played RE4 for christ sake, devs just look at anything new and shit themselves. |

Motion controls themselves aren't bad. But they don't need to incorporate them into every genre. Sports games and the like, great, use them. But the only way to use motion controls in a fighting game, let's say like the piece of the Natal promo where he's fighting by kicking and punching, is to slow the game's pace down enough that the CPU doesn't just crush you because you can't possibly move fast enough. The games will never reach the speed of play in current, button-driven games. Could you play SF4 with motion controls? Maybe against another person using motion controls...and it would be slow as fuck. My opinion. |

Even slower than expected, I'd imagine. Naturally regular people can't throw punches and kicks as fast as Ryu. But I don't think these camera based controllers will even be able to keep up with an average person trying to attack quickly. You'll have to slow yourself down to keep the game from "Bam!" misreading your movements.

If they did, I predict that there would be headlines that read, "Children punch holes in TV playing motion sensor fighting game." It would probably be shorter and more catchy, but you get the gist of it.
