[E3 09] Nintendo Press Conference Wrapup
To recap Nintendo's E3 presentation.
- The presentation opened with New Super Mario Bros for the Wii, a new game in the 'classic' 2D style, but with 4 player Co-Op. Slated for a holiday 09 release. - Next up was WiiFit Plus. The game - which will ship with and without the board - will have 6 new strength and yoga activities, as well as 15 new balance games, including juggling, skateboarding and even a platform game. - Wii Motion Plus was shown next, with games from Wii Sport Resort. Almost the same presentation as last year. We get some ping-pong, some skydiving, archery and then shooting hoops. Looks like all of the other Wii Sport/Play type games. Wii Sport Resort will be out July 26. - Highlighting third party games which make use of WiiMotion Plus (WMP). Tiger Woods and Grand Slam Tennis from EA Sports, Virtua Tennis from Sega and Red Steel 2 from Ubisoft, which will require the accessory. - Next up is Final Fantasy: The Crystal Bearer, a new open world RPG for the Wii. A new Kingdom Hearts was also trotted out for the DS. - Also coming to the DS - Mario & Luigi RPG: Bowser's Inside Story. The plumbers are shrunk down, and swallowed by Bowser. You lead Bowser around a map, and event switch to inside of him. Coming this fall. - A new Golden Sun for the DS in 2010. - James Patterson's Women's Murder Club for the DS; a sort of point & click adventure based around the popular series of books - C.O.P.: The Recruit, from Ubisoft for the DS. A Driver-esque action/driving game set for a fall release. - Next was Style Savvy for the DSi, a dress-up game aimed at "fashionistas" which makes use of the DSi cameras. - New Mario vs Donkey Kong, which will be available from the DSi store next week. Will incorporate user-created content. Create and share levels you create. - A new Wario Ware game where users can create their own microgames. - The DSi will get Facebook integration this summer; automatically upload pics you took on the system. - Zelda: Spirit Tracks for the DS was mentioned, but no demo was shown. It is playable on the show floor, though. - Another new WiiMote accessorty, the Wii Vitality Sensor. Little explanation of what it does or why. - Spotlighting the third party exclusives on the Wii: The Conduit, Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles and Dead Space: Extraction. - The show closed with reveals of the new Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid: Other M games, which are being discussed here. Overall a disappointing and dull show, saved slightly by the revelations at the end. We'll have more on some of these later today. |

The presentation was much worse to watch then the bulleted lists suggest.

There are four games on that list which will be first day buys for me, and several more that I am interested in. Plus some games that weren't shown at the presser, like finally getting another Professor Layton. I'd like to see more but I'm not going to complain much about what I'm getting.

And more 2d Mario is fuck win, and the fact that it'll be the first I can remember with same screen co-op is even more fuck-win.

Except that was like 2 minutes of the presentation. In general, the more lame the bullet sounds the more press time it got. Heck, there had to be at least a 10 minute lead in before they announced the Vitality Sensor.

Maybe I will. For some reason I stopped playing the second game basically right before the last dungeon. I think I'd gotten all the summon creatures (don't even remember what they're called), and put them together in my group to make them totally kick ass.

So, any idea how much this New Super Mario Bros for the Wii is or isn't like the DS version?

Which is why I don't watch it, I only read the bullet points. Which is probably why reading the Nintendo conference made me go "Not awesome, but decent" and makes me wonder what's wrong with the people watching the Sony conference. Apparently you people are really attracted to shiny objects.

I'm scared as hell that it's nothing more than Golden Sun 1 & 2 redesigned for the DS.

The look is remarkably similar and I imagine it will play much the same, as well. Albeit with more or different powerups, Yoshi, and co-op. Hopefully it'll have as many, if not more, levels.

The result aren't too bad, but the presser was painful to watch. Almost as bad as the Ubisoft one yesterday

I was seriously disappointed in Nintendo this year. Another year lacking titles that would hold my attention and make me want to get a Wii, seriously .. when WiiFit is my main reason for considering a purchasing a Wii, that makes me want to ask Nintendo why they are taking the direction they are going in.

New Super Mario Bros, Golden Sun, Mario Galaxy, Metroid, and especially Mario and Luigi! This stuff all sounds great to me. I'm happy that I am at work when all the conferences are going on, because I don't go into huge fits of complaining like everyone else seems to do. These lists are more than enough for me!
