New Monitor Predicament.

I guess this is more of a Vent/Question but I got a new monitor that has DVI and HDMI support. I wanted to use the HDMI cable just cuz i can but whenever i use it the speakers inside the monitor seem to want to cut out. Is the HDMI drawing to much power or something?

It may help if you give us the monitor brand and model. Generally speaking no, it shouldn't cut off sound to your speakers unless the monitor is built with the thought that if you are using the HDMI cable you'd be using it as your primary sound source as well which is BS and would not be the case for most users.

Sorry

It's the ASUS VK246H.

I sorta figured it out. Speakers aren't borked but they only work when VGA or DVI are plugged in. if HDMI is plugged in it cuts the speakers for some reason. As to why i'm not sure. I may try to call and see if there's a way of "unlocking" it but if it's just that way then oh well i'll dig out some speakers to place on my desk when my headset starts to hurt my head.

I'd guess it has something to do with HDCP.

So your green audio cord or whatever/sound card is connected to the monitor?

I don't know what kind of graphics card you have... but it may be trying to output sound via HDMI and there is a conflict?

To transmit audio through HDMI, you must enable audio out in your video card. It is possible, but I've never seen it happening. Maybe somebody with an HTPC should pitch in?

I'll need to do this tomorrow/later today when I set up my new receiver, I'm hoping I won't have to dick around with the drivers too much.
