Saint's Row 2 (Redux)
Yeah, I know I'm late to the party, but I had to gush about how awesome this game is. Better than GTA IV, and I'd say it's almost/maybe is better than San Andreas. The amount of content is staggering, and the co-op/multi is pretty damn fun.
And in 3~ days, a new DLC pack comes out. Pretty cool for someone just getting started in the game. So, does anyone still play this? |

I started into it a couple weeks ago and it is a VERY good time... I don't play online though.

I just started playing this for the first time recently. I'm not too far into the stories, I've mostly been dicking around and doing side missions.
I do like the open nature and the character customization. I also like being able to set my gang's style (80's new wave!) and other things like that. I'm not crazy about the controls, driving seems a little janky. And the story is kind of turning me off, I'm just not into the characters or thuggishness. It also seems to be assuming that I'm intimately familiar with Saint's Row 1, which I've never played. And I hate the way it locks up on me at least once out of every three play sessions. I'm at the point now where I manually save any time I find a collectible or even just visit a store. In summary, I'm enjoying it as a diversion, but I liked GTA IV a whole lot more (better story and characters for me, and I think I'm in the minority but I liked the driving controls there, too). The crazy stunts and everything in SR2 are entertaining but I doubt I'll finish the game, especially since inFamous comes out in a few days.

I've only had one lock up on the 360 version and that was early on, before the patching. There have been random glitches like stuff disappearing and model clipping, etc, but no hard locks. I appreciate GTA IV for the level of detail and style, but SR2 has just been more fun for me overall. |

The one thing that sells SR2 over GTAIV for me is replayability. GTAIV has none outside of the multiplayer. SR2 has tons of it.
It's like Volition saw GTA and thought "Yeah, let's do the exact opposite of that". Better handling cars, Insane weaponry and a main character who has none of this "morally grey" bullshit that Niko had. You play a character who is a complete sociopath and bastard. Incidentally, for anyone new to the game I have a suggestion on what to do first: Steal a plane/helicopter and get three gold stars on the Base Jumping diversion. The reward is being able to fall from any height and not die. |

I'm playing it on the 360. Maybe I'll try installing it to the hard drive and see if that helps any.

Always install any game you play on the 360, 95% of freezing and loading problems just vanish. Plus the disc drive isn't hissing and spitting at you the entire time.

Also, before you do any missions besides the prologue, complete the FUZZ activity in the Projects up to level six. It's really easy since the missions give you unlimited ammo for whatever they want you to accomplish. The reward is the best pistols in the game, plus unlimited pistol ammo. This is a godsend for the rest of the game.

You mean those COBRA pistols? Hate those, I use the .50 pistol till I can get my hands on the twin UZI's. Those + Unlimited ammo = never need another weapon again.

Another game that I need to get to playing. I did play around with it when it came out last fall but quickly shelved it due to other games that I wanted to play more. What I did play, I was really enjoying it.

SR2 was one of the most enjoyable games I've played on the 360. I love getting the perks for the minigames.
Best thing to get is unlimited rifle ammo. Then you can use the sniper rifle, which is essentially a point and click rocket launcher. One or two shots detonates a car. It makes the battle against the guy with the monster truck stupidly easy. Another fun thing to do is to stand inside the door to your main hideout and shoot cop cars that jam themselves into the doorway. You just keep blowing them up with dual uzis, and the cops can't get inside. |

I've been trying to con some fellow CoG'ers into renting if, not purchasing SR2 for a co-op run through. I enjoyed the hell out of what little I played of the first, and the addition of campaign co-op to that formula is more than enough to get me on board for the sequel.

I've also had loads of fun with this game. Really wishing my stuff was with me and not in Texas though. I'd definitely do the coop thing if I could. I'm almost done with the story, only a few neighborhoods left, lots of side missions though. I've been trying to finish them off as I go through. I'm not great at the driving/racing side missions though. FUZZ was fun =)

Even if installing eliminates the crashing, I won't go back. I still have a bad taste in my mouth from this crashtastic adventure.

Love the game more every day. Thanks for the tips, guys. No crashes thus far... one thing that bugs me is the lack of autosave. It scares me when I've been playing for 4 hrs straight and my save game isn't up to date.

But there IS an autosave... But only after missions I think (I still save after accomplishing anything). I've had one crash in over 20 hours of play.

The easiest activities to accomplish right out of the gate that get you set up for the rest of the game are: FUZZ, Projects - Unlimited pistol ammo and COBRA pistols. Drug Trafficking, Airport - Unlimited shotgun shells and Ultimax shotgun. Insurance Fraud, Factories - Unlimited sprinting. All Hitman locations - Unlimited rifle ammo. Steal a FBI sport utility vehicle. It's insanely fast, sturdy, and can carry you and three homies. After those three missions, the Hitman jobs, and stealing the FBI truck, you can beat any mission in the game. |

Don't forget the single easiest and one of the most useful perks to get: No falling damage.
Just go to the airport and steal an airplane. Fly it really high above the city, and jump out. It will prompt you to do the BASE jumping activity, where you have to skydive onto a target on the ground. It is really easy, and when you hit the bullseye on the ground you unlock the no falling damage perk. It's amazing how useful this is. In one mission where I had fought my way all the way up into a large building, instead of fighting all the way back to the ground I just blew a window out and jumped. You hit the ground, dust yourself off, jack a car and you're done. |
