Negative. I checked CNN, and it's actually down again.
Meh. Can't win them all, I suppose. EDIT: On topic, I forgot. I agree with CD. I'm not really sure what discussion can stem from this. It's another case of police crossing the line, but they were dealt with. I'm not sure if the the mayor was insinuating it was a race issue and if that's even a fair insinuation, but the situation appears to have been handled... Strikes me as the officers reacting to seeing one of their own nearly get killed. The blame lies on them, but ultimately I can understand their actions. They should have gone about it in a more professional manner, but it's difficult to do so when your emotions--especially one such as anger--get in the way.
They're not excused, but their actions are understandable.

Oh boy, this (thread and situation) is not going to end well.
I think the woman they have speaking is annoying, but she raises a good point at the end: Why did the guy only know about this recently? |

I'm not sayin OJ should kill his wife... I'm just sayin... I understand.
Seriously, these guys just watched as the driver tried to take one of thier buddies out. You try to kill a friend of mine, and you'll be damn sure I want to fuck your shit up. Cops are human. Did they cross the "authority line" so to speak? Yes. Do I understand it? Absolutely. As far as why the guy didn't know he got his ass kicked? From what I read, he was unconcious and assumed it was from the car accident.

Civil, I'll submit that I didn't watch until the end of that video (where it's mentioned the guy didn't know about it until his trial). And judging by the comments thus far, others didn't as well. There should definitely be recourse for the people who decided to cover up and try to keep it hush hush, however I'm not sure filing criminal charges against the five officers would be the course to go.
They were pissed off and acted out on it. Granted, police officers should have better control over their emotions than the average person, but that's why they are no longer cops. I'm patiently awaiting Ox's entrance to this thread, to see what he says about it. The points about the mitigation and the 18 month delay do intrigue me. |

Aren't there rules for chases? Why the fuck would you stand out in the middle of the street trying to stop a car? Would robot police be so bad?

They should have shot him. I'm so sick of these assholes who flee from cops, end up doing so much damage, always ending in an accident, kill some innocent half the time, then get carted off the the hospital on tax payer dollars. I'll be more than happy to pay for the bullet.

That doesn't make it the smart thing to do. Throw your fucking strip and get back in the car.
Look, they wouldn't let me run up and beat his ass if I was one of those cars he hit. So they should act like fucking examples and not like normal people and get cheap shots in on an unconscious body. I'd be carted away like was just as big a fuck up as him. He'll they'd tase anybody else beating up on a unconscious body. So getting fired, seems about right. Above the law mentality annoys me, even on the smallest level. Not being able to have Vulcans or Robocops running around sucks. On unicorns at that. ^_^

They could have shot him, he tried to murder a police officer. So, there's no law saying they couldn't have shot him on the spot. However, he fell out of a rolling vehicle and then was clearly unconscious when 5 cops began beating him senseless. One even pulled out his night stick. The police are supposed to be role models for kids, they're suppose to show a sense of self control. These officers did not. So, I feel they should have been fired, which they were. However, why was the video covered up for so long? Is the criminal now going to be able to file suit against the police? county? state? I'd hate to see this guy walk away with anything less than life in prison. He absolutely tried to kill that cop. He deserves a hefty conviction, but I'm afraid now because of the actions of the cops, that he'll be able to sue or lessen his charges some how.
All in all, we're humans....not animals. So no matter how badly you hate someone, pounding on an unconscious body, even if it was a serial child molester, is not the right thing to do. You can even tell, at the end of the video, that one of the cops thinks, "oh shit my camera's on" then runs to the car and the video ends.

you can understand all you like but the simple fact is any none police officer doing the same thing for the same reason would have been pulled off BY police, the indecent noted and maybe even charges filed. They should be fired, it's that simple, if the guy had had a neck injury they could have killed him. He posed no threat, there was no reason for that kind of force and no matter if they had just seen there friend or fellow officer get killed that dose not put them above the law. Given that it also seemed to have been covered up and that the guy who was beaten up only found out about it at his own trail... well... that speaks to a "above the law" mentality that "because it was understandable" it was ok. Which is not something you ever want to see with in a police force.
I'd also like to say that i don't think the guy was trying to kill or hit the officer. From the looks of it with the way the trap was spread out the only way he could go around them was past the officer. If he meant to hit him he likely would have. Not defending the idoit who i think should be in jail even longer just saying that we can't at all claim to know said idiot was trying to kill any one. That he could have and was lucky not to (any hight speed chance can end up with dead people) is not an issue as such since it won't be used as a defence. |
