Marvel vs Capcom 2 Officially Announced for XBLA/PSN

Marvel has confirmed that Marvel vs. Capcom 2 will be heading to XBLA and PSN sometime this summer. While we were already all but certain the game would be coming home via digital distribution, this is the official confirmaiton. The port will include online multiplayer, but will apparently be otherwise identical to the Dreamcast version of the game.

The exact date and pricing were not announced.

UPDATE a demo of the game will be up on PSN this Thursday. It'll have local MP and feature seven levels and six characters: Ryu, Chun-Li, Strider, Spider-Man, Iron Man and Wolverine.

Well that's an interesting list for demo characters. Three Marvel characters with recent huge films, the two biggest Street Fighter icons...and Strider. I'm a friend to all Soviet cyberninjas, but that's pretty rarefied company.

MvC would be a great DLC platform. Capcom has a lot more of their own characters they could throw in, and sparsely-animated low-res sprites can't take that long to produce. Viewtiful Joe, Okami (who owns the IP?), Dante, and Phoenix Wright would all get my $2.
