Hmm, Starfox on the Wii with some really, really good motion controls? That'd be cool.

First off, I'd love to know what they did to Smash to purposefully make it more "casual". It's always been a very accessible game. Mario Kart has always BEEN a casual game, and Mario Galaxy was quite difficult at places. I actually can't think of any franchise that Nintendo has purposefully dumbed down, just new dumbed down franchises they've been creating.

Starfox is actually ideal for the Wii, we've got proof that rail shooters are excellent on the Wii.

But you have to agree that Mario Kart has changed. Not as much with the Wii version (aside from the motion controls), but starting with the GC version. I can play the hell out of MK on the DS, it's one of the best games in the franchise, if not the best. The GC and Wii games, however, just don't feel right.

Fair enough. I just don't feel that "dumbed down" is the right word. They're just less...tight? When I play the most recent console iterations, I just feel like there's not much point in "knuckling down" and getting serious so that I win, so I guess I'll half-retract my statement about the series from earlier.

However, let me be frank: The lack of a battle mode without a time limit in the Wii game is a war crime.

Edit: Also, Nintendo has seemed convinced that Battle mode is not important since the 64 iteration. It feels like it was tacked on due to tradition, not given the hours it deserves.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who really the MK Battle Modes. I've loved them since the SNES game, but could never get many games together since nobody else seemed to care for them. Seriously, what's not to like about Kart arena deathmatch?

MK Battle Mode is probably the number two cause of lost friendships with the people I grew up with. The number one cause was of course, Goldeneye.

Smash - slowed the game, removed techs, upped shielding
Kart - changed powersliding, upped items, wii wheel
Galaxy - co-op, lowered star requirements

With Galaxy they did a good job with their for everybody design. I dislike how the tutorials keep getting longer. As with Zelda, I know I'm wasting the first five hours with a hand-holding furry.

And their everybody design is ingratiating, because the bar gets lower to the lowest-common denominator. Some of Galaxy stars are difficult, but by the same token, some are easy.

They were that way in Mario 64 and Sunshine. Mario has always been that way. You can beat the game as a casual player but there's something deeper there for those who seek it out. I wasn't totally wowed by Galaxy, but it was still a damn good game.

Block Fort has more memories for me than my Elementary School.

They were, but look at it this way: Sunshine is harder than 64 which is harder than Galaxy. Galaxy is rather flaccid when it comes to hardness.

Eww. Donut & Skyscraper here. We would always plant a box or nana right on the spawn points. Which reminds me of prox mines in the Basement.

I didn't see much difference between Galaxy and Sunshine in terms of difficulty. Heck, Galaxy is an overall improvement over Sunshine, it doesn't have the camera issues that Sunshine had. Even 64 wasn't hard in any way, other than maybe chasing down those damn rabbits in the castle. They're all challenging enough not to be a total cakewalk, but not too easy.

I may be a little off on Sunshine, it's the one I played the least, but I did go through the first 40 or so shines about a year ago and it played just like I remembered.

Slower pace made slow characters usable, I consider myself a hardcore player and I did not tech (It's not just a hardcore thing, it's a top %10-15 percent thing). Grab them, you retard.

I don't really like the new Mario Kart, and I really feel like its the looseness of control. I like my cart to drive tight.

The co-op was a nice little feature that certainly didn't change the game's playability radically, what do you mean by "lowered star requirements"?

The only thing I disliked was that the world's weren't very explorable, like many of the Mario 64 levels. Every level plays like Rainbow Cruise - small islands of content. Nothing there is like Bob-omb battlefield.

However, there are at least 10 stars in Galaxy that are harder than any star in Mario 64. Luigi's purple coins and purple coins on the Battle...star, was it called? Were very hard, as were all 3 of the special green levels, and those are just the ones I remember. The difficulty of getting all the stars in Galaxy is much, much higher than 64.

Sakurai could've made changes and kept the speed.

Snaking changed MK for me. It made the game deeper and gave you the power to break the rubberband A.I.

60 stars to finish vs. 75.

Hence the co-op comment. Battlestar, I believe. Either that or Dreadnought.

And no stars were "walk into level, go down a slide, get a star" or "walk into level, grab penguin, go down a slide, get a star". There's very few stars that you just run up and grab in Galaxy. Those 60 stars are harder to get than 70 stars in Mario 64.

I'm tempted to go through and count, but that means replaying both 64 and Galaxy. Which is a great idea. I'll get to it one of these days. Back-to-back baby.

For now, I doth shake my head with vigor and loudly proclaim, "Nuh-uh." And you will retort with an equally vigorous nod of "Yuh-hunh." Repartee. Dodge; parry; thrust. Hadoken!

Hell yes, just hold a green shell behind your kart.
