Sacred 2 Achievements

The recent 2.40 patch for the PC version of Sacred 2 added Achievements to the game. The same list of Achievements will apparently be used for the 360 version as well.

There was some pretty good stuff in the latest patch, which makes me cautiously hopeful for the console version.

The PC game is not GFWL. It's only a "Games For Windows" title, so the Achievements are only used within the game. (IE - The points are meaningless for e-peen measuring.) For those of you with the Steam version, nothing has been confirmed or denied by Ascaron, but Valve hasn't loaded their version of the 2.40 patch either.

As for PS3 Trophies, I haven't seen anything yet, but I imagine they would be similar.

I have the version sold through Impulse, which is basically the same as the retail copy. I was even able to load the retail 2.40 patch before Stardock updated their files.

I enjoy Steam achievements, and I wish that more games had them. However, I'm glad that there isn't an overall score like Xbox Live.

Hopefully these will translate into Steam achievements soon. I think that completely in-game achievements are kind of pointless.

Unfortunately, I have a feeling they won't be Steam Achievements. Neither Ascaron nor Valve has made any mention of it and going by what I've seen of other third party titles, one of them would have said something about it by now. See the UT3 Titan patch for an example.

I agree that Achievements isolated within a game are pretty pointless. (Moreso than amassing an imaginary "score" to brag about!) I guess some people still get jazzed about it nonetheless. Hell, look at Sins of a Solar Empire.

Yeah, Sins is a great example of how to NOT do achievements IMHO. I never pay any attention to them whatsoever, especially since I have to load up the game to see which ones I've collected, and there isn't any type of notice when I do get one.

I like Steam achievements because there is a pop up and I can check them at any time. I also like the lack of an overall score/e-peen.

Wow, what shitty achievements.

I always prefer it when they are made around making you do thing you wouldn't have usually tried in a game, or doing something different. Like the Prankster one in FO3, I would never have tried stealing and placing a grenade in someones pocket, and because of that I got to see zombie bits blow up all over town. good times.

These achievements were just patched into the PC version, so this isn't about the console's inevitable achievements, although I imagine they will be similar.

Oh, I know, I'm just really looking forward to the game since we don't get many games like it on consoles. From what I heard the PC version was very buggy so I'm crossing my fingers that the console versions don't share that same aspect.

In other words, these things aren't what I want to hear about the game, I just want to hear that the console versions aren't broken.

If you check my link in the OP these Achievements are the same for the PC and 360.

If you haven't played Sacred 2, then I understand the disappointment. Trust me when I say that exploring 50% of the game map or completing 40% of the sidequests is something most players do not do with any one character.

I hope this gets released next month. Ive had a preorder on this for months and if it gets pushed back one more time, then no buy for me.

Hopefully they fix up the PC version at some point. It's a shame that it was released in such a buggy state.

The Steam version (the one I have, incidentally) will be getting the 2.40 patch "next week"

Quote:
I hate to bring the bad news, but we want you to be informed.

The Steam version will come next week because the Steam employee who has to change the version to be compatible with Steam is not in the house until next week.

We are very sorry, but there is nothing we can change about it.

Another source in that thread states that the current tentative ETA is April 13th.

At least it's coming!

No, I haven't yet. I suppose when you put it like that it does make some sense.

Still worries me that it can imply that the only reason I'd bother to explore the whole world is for achievements, not because its such an interesting world that I want to.

FO3 had the finding 100 places achievement, but I scoured much more than that just because all the hiden away places were so interesting and had a lot of thought put into them.

The Steam version of Sacred 2 has been patched to 2.40. Will be firing it up tonight to check it out, haven't played it much since I bought it.

http://store.steampowered.com/news/2409/

No mention of achievements in those patch notes, Steam or otherwise.

Definitely let us know what you think of the update, and if the achievements are indeed included.

Full price? Probably not. I like it, but I grabbed it on sale for $30.

I'd say your enjoyment of the game depends on how much you liked the crunchy numbers meta-game in Diablo II versus the actual game. I like numbers. I like figuring out the combos, skills, and effects.
