New Screens from Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2

Activision has provided us with some new screenshots for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2. The sequel to the 2006 original will feature a storyline based in part on the Civil War storyline from that same year. The image above is confirmation that Iron Fist will be a playable character in the game. Other characters shown in the screens include Iron Man, The Hulk, the Fantastic Four, Wolverine and Nick Fury.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 is set for release later this year on the PS3, 360, Wii, PS2, PSP and DS.

Great looking screens. i really enjoyed playing the first game and hope that this new one is just as good. Frequently used the 'Bad to the Bone' team.

I think that's an outfit worn by one of the previous Iron Fists, maybe the 12th century one?

Looks like body armour.

Dammit, the Immortal Iron Fist does not wear body armour. Not that much of an issue though, this is MUA afterall, new costumes are unlocked after like 10 minutes anyway.

Making a kick to the face one of his moves though... man they're just adding him for Chris Sims aren't they?

Wait, they're making *Wolverine* a playable character?! What an exciting announcement!

But yeah, I love these type of games, and I love Marvel, so this is a buy for me. I'm interested in their version of the Civil War storyline. I liked the comic story overall, but it will be interesting (and probably better off) having just one story without the million tie-ins and delays that plagued the comics. I also bet you get two campaigns here (Pro Reg. and Anti Reg.) and that the arguments for the various factions will be more consistently and forcefully argued than the somewhat scatterbrained presentation in the comics.

There's a splitting point, after which you get to choose the sides. But as far as characters are concerned, only Cap and Iron Man are bound to each side.

I think the game starts with Secret War, goes to Civil War, and possibly ends with Secret Invasion.

What? They couldn't squeeze in Civil Invasion too?

I am looking forward to seeing if the new development team can do anything interesting with this game, but those screens are bullshots if I ever saw any.

This is a TOP DOWN adventure game. Unless they have radically changed the perspective and style (which I would really love to see, actually) the game will look nothing like that when you are playing it.

Edit: Ditto with that video.

According to the previews I've read, the camera zooms in and out relatively dynamically, and has been scene in-playable sequences. Whether or not this actually works well towards the end, well, we'll see.

Apparently a big crux of this game is the new GFX engine and the new camera.

Referencing what I was quoting earlier:

The camera seems to track the action nicely, zooming in to focus on the occasional special-takedown move. There are also some portions of the game that feature a lot of AI enemies onscreen at the same time, and the engine didn’t seem to chug or see a dramatic lowering of the frame rate. Also, the models used in the gameplay sections are the same as they used in cutscenes, so there a smooth consistency throughout.

I would like to see the game breakout of that overhead view, but I'm still skeptical. Regardless, though, "zooming in" certainly isn't the same thing as all those crazy angles seen in those screens and videos. You simply couldn't play the game and make rhyme or reason of it from those angles.

I agree. X-Men Legends was horrible because of it's camera. Marvel Ultimate Alliance alleviated my pain quite a bit, but it still felt a bit loose in the gameplay department, and, while not horrible, the frame rate could have used a bit of work. It was still fun, though, despite the fact I would have preferred to have been playing with a team consisting of Martian Manhunter, Green Arrow, Batman, and Flash.

Actually, I take that back. Take out the team mechanic and make it so you only have as many characters on screen as you have players. The team mechanic can get pretty annoying.

Actually, since it looks like those are all occurring during heavy action moments (IE Iron Fist kicking dude in the face), the focus could be to change so you have a good view of the characters takedown. It'd be in line with some of the other shots I've seen. It seems like there's a slight slomo effect when it happens, which could keep it from interfering with gameplay.

But not from giving me a headache, most likely.

Not saying it's not a bullshot, just saying there ARE things to indicate it's legit.
