News Submissions Now Open

We haven't made a big deal about it, but we've just passed the six month anniversary of Colony of Gamers. This past half-year has been a lot of fun, and a lot of work too. We've had our good moments, and our bad, but overall we think we're headed in the right direction. We have some neat surprises lined up for the next week or so, but first and foremost I want to thank everyone who has helped make this the best site on the internet, and a place I'm proud to call my home. We Founders may have made the site, but all of you make it great. *sniff* I'm getting all misty.

So, with little fanfare, we're opening up the news submissions process to the users. As you can now see on the front page, the tip line has been replaced with a "Submit News" button. For the first few months while we were setting our editorial tone, we felt it best to keep the front page limited to a few people. But at this point we think you're all familiar with how we do news that we can throw open the gates a little.

But there are some rules, as spelled out in our Style Guide. Before submitting any news, please read that to see what we require in a submission. We will make every effort when a story is denied to let the submitter know why it was denied, but we're human and sometimes we just don't do that. In those cases, please don't get mad. If you have a question, shoot me a PM and I'll try to answer your questions.

Q. Is the new Submit News form able to be used both for CoG front page news submissions and for the Immortal Machines PC news section?

For now it's for the CoG front page. I'll talk to Voodoo about how he wants to do IM news.

Boohoo. Nobody should get mad...cause back in my day, we used to submit 20 news stories in a row and hope that one of them got used!

Back on topic, I am glad to see this around and hope that everyone will take full advantage of it. So does this mean the tips line is officially closed?

If the news is denied will you be able to move it to the appropriate forum? E.g. handheld / console?

Yes, we'll usually try to do that.

Since the same Submit News link appears on both the IM and CoG front page, I'd figure that the submissions be sorted and placed in the appropriate locations. The Immortal Machines front page feeds from three forums:

PC Gaming News - Industry news that is PC Gaming centric.
IM Features - Unique features to IM (Reviews, Opinion, etc...)
IM Podcast - Threads all about the podcast.

I don't see a reason to have separate submission queues. Right now we are doing as it is done for CoG's front page by moving the thread into the appropriate forum.

Yes, we hope this is a worthwhile endeavor. It will help strengthen both the colony itself and the ongoing wish to have more news coverage during the day. Feel free to post whatever news you feel would be good and we'll handle the placing of it.

Just follow the style guide as Doc has asked is all we as a group ask
