Yeah, he says it here too. This was known a whole ago though I believe, although not necessarily that it was Vin's idea.

I've always liked Vin. Haters can suck it. The man's one of us.

Sounds to me like they tacked it on midway through making the game... I will have my doubts about it.

Since it is wholly different from the campaign, why would it matter when it was added, provided it has enough development time? We'll see, though. I remember some of the modes sounding pretty cool.

Yeah, despite his somewhat shitty movie choices (although he does have Saving Private Ryan and Pitch Black to point to) Vin is a true geek. D&D nerd, gamer, comic fiend, manga nut; he's the real deal when it comes to an uber-nerd making it legit.

What I mean is that I hope they actually put the same amount of effort into the MP aspect of the game, and not just whip something up to please Vinny D's demands.

With the amount of quality MP FPS's out there now, it really takes alot to get people to stray from their MP game of choice.

I'd like co-op or something, but really... competitive multiplayer is lost upon me. Make it so I can keep enjoying the bulk of the content produced repeatedly, not so I can play another derivative but not as good as existing FPS kings mode....

I saw all of this in the demo and it kinda put me off. It did sem very old school MP but just not my thing. Hopefully it'll be fun though.

Sigh.

The Darkness MP was a total travesty. Adding this midway through development won't make this one any better I think. And after I played the demo of this this went from must buy to not so sure now. Pulling dev time away from the SP doesn't sound to bright.

Who the hell plays these kinds of multiplayer games anyway when there's Gears, Halo, COD4-5 and Killzone already. Yeah maybe an evening or two but then everyone will hop back to their old game of choice.

My favorite story about him I read in Newsweek (so it may not be true), but evidently some woman was carrying her groceries to her car in LA and a bunch of teenage guys started to harass her, and then Vin Diesel shows up out of some store and tells the guys that they're going to carry her groceries to her car. And then they do, because he's scary.

Well, considering that the game started off as HD-Remix of Riddick, then added on another campaign.. they may as well add MP to it.

From what I saw, I guess a few of the modes involve less traditional MP, including a mode where it's Riddick vs. Mercs.

The MP stuff seems like it was added because they had the tech and the time, and making the SP portion even longer would probably just dilute it.

Vin Diesel once killed a man by throwing a D20 at his head. When they dice came out, it only showed a score of 5. That's how bad ass he is, he kills you even with a really low roll.

Honestly? I have faith in this. The Riddick game seems, in retrospect, almost like a "special case" in the history of Starbreeze. Their other games are few and far between and generally quite poorly reviewed.

Except Butcher Bay. I really think Vin's involvement is probably the tipping point there, he seems like a very hands-on kind of guy, and I suspect not a bit of the game goes by without meeting his approval, which would explain the big difference in quality between that, and their other games.

As for whether it'll some how take Xbox Live by storm, well, of course it won't. Nothing does that doesn't say "Halo" in the title. That's been true since the day they put Halo 2 on Live. Sure a game will come along and grab the attention of the masses occasionally, like R6 3 and Splinter Cell did briefly back on the Xbox 1, or Gears of War and COD4 did on the 360, but those always fade off over time. It's just the reality of the matter, so judging a game by the impact it makes on Live's userbase is a pretty poor rubric of quality.

I thought The Darkness was pretty well received as well. I averages about a 8 on metacritic, which isn't bad. I loved the SP, I never played Riddick before, but was willing to buy it on the strength of that game alone. After the demo and news like this I'm not so sure anymore.

As for the MP, I agree that popularity doesn't equal quality (we'd all be playing Okami or something then). But adding it halfway through with a trackrecord of not so grand MP in previous games just feels like adding it for adding it sake. If you do it, do it well (which could still be, but I'm doubtful), otherwise it's just there to not scare away the folks who wont buy anything without MP.

From the little that I read the new game still needs work, I wish they concentrated on that.

Where did you read that this game still needed work? This game was to be released in the fall, then they gave them more time to polish it etc. so it should be pretty solid.

Despite the name on the box, AODA's latter half makes it a supporting act to Butcher's Bay's main attraction. It doesn't matter how many triple twists and double somersaults a gymnast pulls if he smashes his face on the landing, and AODA crash lands pretty bloody hard. Fortunately, it's a broken nose limited to a small part of a packed box. [Apr 2009, p.82]
From xboxworld.

Like I said, I read only this, but it reads like "needs work":P

Ah well, we'll see. Maybe the crappy demo is really what it is, a crappy demo.

Neat read. Personally though it sounds like although it may not be on par with Butcher Bay, it isn't terrible. Given that Butcher was fan-fucking-tastic, I'll take it. Definitely interested to see what reviewers have to say about it though.
