iPhone OS updates (copy/paste, Touch bluetooth unlock, etc.)
From Engadget:
Of course iPod Touch owners get to pay $10 for the privilege of updating to the new OS. So my next question is if you can link a Touch to a (non-iPhone) bluetooth phone for mobile web access (as you can with notebooks). Tethering, that's the word I was looking for. Apparently you will be able to do iPhone-to-notebook tethering. (Not sure if this will be ready when the OS launches (carrier support?), but the OS will support it.)

It is important to note that "For instance, A2DP and MMS won't be available on the iPhone 1st gen." Hopefully that isn't accurate and I can't see why both wouldn't be available on the 1st gen. :|

That is upsetting. I've been wanting MMS for so long, and now they're basically saying I might never have it as long as I have a first gen iPhone? Lame, lame, lame.

Crazy Apple is crazy.
I never get Apple's success. They have the stupidest business model, and yet they are successful. EDIT: crazy muddi900 is crazy. Should've read the the article. Yay! forward messaging. Now I just need the unlocking software.

Does it have physical volume control buttons and an external speaker? Then it's a 2nd Gen. Otherwise, it's a 1st Gen.

I have a question that is semi-on-topic:
I want an iPhone. Badly. Like willing to cut off appendages (mine or anyone else's). But I think I'm fucking stuck with Sprint for the next year or so. Are these whispers I hear about unlocking an iPhone true? Is it really possible? Also, just how different are iPod Touches to the iPhones? Is it really just a matter of one has a phone (and the internet service it provides)? Can it really be that simple of a difference? If it is, I am getting one of those bitches tonight. |

From what I understand a touch and iphone are identical except for the cell service (phone / internet). Although the touch has wifi.

Also, I've read that the 2nd gen Touch has a slightly faster processor (and maybe improved graphics chip) than the iPhone and 1st gen Touch, while the iPhone has a higher-quality screen than the Touch.
* The screen quality issue might have been fixed in the 2nd gen. Not sure on this yet... Engadget's review said: Quote:

I assume that means broadband modems that require a password to connect are a problem, not WiFi networks that require a password?

It supports WEP, not sure that else you would need.

Ah, never mind about the unlocking. It seems that Sprint and AT&T are entirely different network types.
Now I'm off to berate Sprint into releasing my contract. Woo! |

Get ready to pay an Early Termination Fee, I guess.

It's a company phone (they pay for my cell) and it's a measly $200. Given the amount I pour into the company I don't think it'll be a problem getting them to pay the fee and pay a bit more for the AT&T coverage. I hope. These are shitty economic times...
