Atlus in trouble?

For the accounting period ending in July, 2009, the company has revised its forecast performance from a profit of ¥100 million ($1 million) to a loss of ¥2.400 billion ($24 million). Their last reported results were a profit of ¥500 million.

Their stock has been falling precipitously as a result.

Looking at their financial reports, much of the loss appears to be of an extraordinary nature, stemming from their withdrawal from arcade-type games, where by their own admission things had not been going well.

Overall sales forecasts are also down however, with a reduction to ¥20 billion, an 11% reduction. Their estimate of pre-tax operating profit has been slashed 72%, to a mere ¥400 million.

Hopefully they'll come through this okay. I remember hearing similar things as a result of SMT: Imagine.

How about they decide to fix this by releasing a port of Persona 2 on the PSP? Huh?

Saw that this morning. I'm hoping they can come back soon and start making enough to survive. They do serve a pretty small niche though and I can't really see that getting any bigger in the near future.

That would be shame... I've always been amazed by their business model. Lots and lots of niche RPGs and SMT/Persona. Has Persona become a big enough that a larger more successful company or even smaller, similarly successful company might consider bailing them out?

I couldn't imagine them totally crashing and burning. The parent company might just get a bit more strict on their budgets. Shutting them down though would suck.

After looking around a little bit more, this place is slightly creepy.

"Nude filter challenges" are just disturbing. Hey heres a picture from an anime of someone in a bikini, now play with it to make them look like they're naked.

I hope Atlus sticks around. They have published a great many of my favorite games from Disgaea to Trauma Center to Shin Megami Tensei to EvilZone (obscure PS1 anime episode style fighter).
