Help me choose my next DS game

Do people hate threads like this?

In any case, I've got 650 Goozex points burning a hole in my virtual pocket, and I've got an itching for a new DS game. Here's a list of DS games I've had my eye on. Choose for me! Or feel free to offer other, tastier, selections.

NG: DS is arguably (and what an argument it could be!) the best implementation of stylus controls for a game on the DS, period. It's a real blast to play.

Retro Game Challenge is amazing, and that was my vote. I just got to Rally King, and I'm loving every second of it.

I voted for Layton. RGC sounds good, but I've heard you do a lot of repetition in the game (playing the same stuff multiple times in order to progress).

Personal opinion, I'd avoid N+ like the plague. I can see it's appeal on XBLA with leaderboards and all, but on a portable, it's just a series of 3-10 second levels over and over and over. I had the PSP version and got rid of it.

EDIT: My vote goes to "Other" with the write in of Kirby's Canvas Curse if you don't already own it. Every DS owner should have that game.

I voted for Civ Rev. I only played it on the 360 but I have read it's just as addictive. I was a Civ noob when I played and it totally hooked me. I never bought it for the DS because I know I won't play anything else if I get it. Including anything on my consoles .

My write is in Theresia. Since you already played my other all time favorite The World Ends With You, i'll mention the other title I would if stranded on a desert island with my DS.

I only played Layton for real of this bunch, and I think it's rather ace, if a bit uneventful at times. Great atmosphere though, something different.

On the Wii I lean towards adventure games and RPGs. But on the DS, I'm open to anything and everything (except horror/survival).

I should note that I own and/or have played the following games:

Advance Wars: Days of Ruin
The World Ends with You
New Super Mario Bros.
Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
CrossworDS
Elite Beat Agents
Starfox Command
Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin

So, it's currently a tie between Ninja Gaiden, Retro Game Challenge, and Professor Layton? Awesome. I'd be happy to pick up any of those!

Gorvi - Thanks for letting me know N+ is a pass on the DS. And I might have to add Kirby's Canvas Curse onto the list for a later purchase. It's been recommended by several people now.

Purple Santa - not touching Theresia with a 10-foot pole. I hate horror games of any kind, shape, dimension, or style. But I'm willing to give Civilization Revolution a try.

Well 1 of 2 isn't bad . At least you liked TWEWY...

I'm derailing but...if you like "adventure" on the Wii...Deadly Creatures. It was action/adventure but some of the most fun i've had on the Wii.

Mario Kart DS would also be a really good one, I hated the GC game, but the DS version is possibly the best in the series.

Oh! Hotel Dusk. Get that.

Chocobo Tales is good too.

I should be banished from the HD lover's club for not mentioning that as my "other". Forgive me fellow HD lovers...Castlevania is melting my brain...

Voted for Ninja Gaiden: DS simply because I think that experience is unique enough to the system that if you haven't played it, you really need to. It isn't intuitive to think that the stylus could properly control a kickass action game, but it totally can, and it's really fun to play.

That said, Civ: Rev, Professor Layton, and Retro Game Challenge are also really good games, so feel good about any of those choices.

If you don't have them yet, the new Chrono Trigger re-release and Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia also probably belong in your library. Both excellent.

EDIT: I see Portrait of Ruin is in your collection now. If you enjoyed that, Order of Ecclesia is a refined upgrade of the same. It's considerably harder at points, but also (IMO) considerably more rewarding.

Thanks, guys! Ninja Gaiden is edging out - can't say I'd hate to add a kick-ass action game to my DS library.

No votes for Elebits? I played the demo on the DS download station and liked it. Anyone else try it out?

Ravenlock - no Chrono Trigger for me. I played the hell out of it when it was on the SNES, and I'm not a big fan of remakes. And I didn't really enjoy Portrait of Ruin, so I'm not really eager to go get Ecclesia. That said, thanks for the input!

You will be blown away at the stylus controls of NG: DS. It's truly a blast to play/control. Lots of fun.

I have no idea what this RGC thing is. No idea...

Anyone play Warhammer 40K: Squad Command on the DS? I played it on the PSP and really enjoyed it.

Retro Game Challenge is a port of Game Center CX. Basically it's kind of a "guided tour" through gaming in the 80's more or less. There's a bit of repetition in there, but personally I find the repeated games, Rally King is a LOT of fun and is a great overhead racer, and Haggle Man 2 IMO is a whole lot more intense and because of that plays pretty differently.

The shooters are very good takes on Galaga and Star Force as well.

The stars, are the last two games. Guardia Force is a great "small" RPG. It's about the middle point between DQ one and two, with some pretty interesting systems in it. And Haggle Man 3 is Metroidvania style hardcore platforming with Mega-Man difficulty.

Put on top of that the feeling of the game, with the recreation of old magazines with cheat codes and previews and all that, as well as your friend who cheers you on as you play.

It's an interesting experience.

But do they ever pull out the cartridge and blow into it? Because if they DO -- instant purchase.

Agreed. It is, to date, the only DS game where I actually enjoy the stylus controls. Most of the time my stylus stays in it's holder. Great game all around.

I Gamefly'd it, and while the gameplay was fine, the DS isn't really up to handling the engine they built for that game. Framerate wasn't great, lots of pausing between turns, etc. It did some neat things, but just felt too clunky for me to really enjoy.
