Braid Coming To PC For More $$

Johnathan Blow's indie and Xbox Live Marketplace darling is coming to PC via Impulse on March 31st! Alas, all is not fine in Tim's topsy-turvy time-bending platform world.

Quote:
$19.95
That's right. It's about $5 more on PC than it was for console players.

This is a good game, and the best part is the final level, which is too brilliant to be believed.

not something i'll go out of my way to pick up but i have a bit of random cash laying around with nothing better to do. I just can't get over the feeling the game might be a bit over rated

Well, it is a "games as art" advocate's dream come true. With its very vague story and lack of action-packed-ness. The puzzles, however, are exceptionally brilliant, and, as I said before, the final level is actually genius.

It's probably overrated because so many people herald it too heavily, but it is really, really good.

I thought the puzzles were very well done, but I didn't enjoy the game as much as others. I agree that the last level was good, but for some reason the game failed to resonate with me.

I got it for free from the Spike VGA contest and am glad I didn't have to pay $15 for it. YMMV.

That's funny, Blow said it was only 15$ since MS 'suggested' for it to be there and he would rather have made it cheaper, but now it will be 20$ on PC. I don't know about that price. I got 15$ worth, but at 20$ I would have been questioning if it was worth it.

World of Goo is $20 on PC and $15 on WiiWare so I suppose there's already a precedent here. I don't know why the developers made that choice, but there it is. Maybe PC gamers are more comfortable paying more for digital games so they cut the console prices to boost sales.

I caught World of Goo on the Steam Holiday sale for $15. It was totally worth that, but $20 was more than I was willing to bite for, personally.

Funny, the link says $14.95.

EDIT: I will be making a separate news entry for the actual release information considering that based on the website, the markup might not even be true.

Nope. You are correct now. The price was changed.

Yesterday, Stardock announced that they would be selling Braid at the end of March for $19.95. This price has proven to be unpopular in certain areas of the Internets, so I’ve reduced it to $14.95. Pre-orders from Stardock have not been charged yet, so if you pre-ordered at $20 you will still get the game for $15.
Good news for PC gamers!

I didn't mean PC gamers pay more than console owners for the same content. In fact, it's usually the opposite. I just meant PC owners are more used to the idea of buying a fully digital game that costs more than $10 thanks to the likes of Steam.

So if the dev thought their game was worth $20, they might not think twice about selling it for the PC at that price, but if they sell it on a console, $20 is considered far too much.

At any rate, Blow said he based his pricing off of World of Goo and now he lowered it. I thought it was odd no one seemed to mind World of Goo was $5 cheaper on WiiWare. I still haven't bought the game because I don't want to spend $20 on it, but I want it for the PC. Time to get out the pitchforks and torches again boys!

I don't like impulse
Tried to buy some stuff off of there but when I had filled all the stuff out it said I couldn't buy it (presumably because I wasn't in the US). If it's on Steam it'll be 15€ instead of 15$ though =/ tough call

i think if it had been on wiiware for a long time first before coming out for the PC there would have been the same reaction. I was willing to pay the extra $5 to have goo on steam and didn't feel like the price had been "put up" it was just different

I'm hoping it goes on a Weekend Deal sometime. I don't like the idea of paying more for a PC game than I would for a console game. That just doesn't make any sense.
