Namco Bandai Posts Profit; Purchases D3 Publisher

Namco Bandai has released its financial report, and the company paints a much rosier picture than many other game industry companies have reported recently. Namco has reported a net income of nearly $100 million, and cites Soul Calibur IV as most of the reason for its success this financial year.

Not one to rest on their laurels, Namco Bandai has also announced their intent to purchase 70% of stock in D3 Publisher.

In a press release announcing the proposed buyout, Namco notes that D3 would benefit from Bandai's reach into other mediums (toys, TV, arcades, movies/music); the sharing of game engine technology; cooperative development of mobile titles; and the rights to use Namco-owned properties (characters, etc.) in its Simple series of budget games.

This is a very good combination. I have been very pleased with the output from Namco Bandai and D3 as of late. Namco Bandai have put Square Enix to shame on the JRPG front the past few years.

Release time not the issue. But imagine, they sold the game without yoda and vader, then around october, you release a Star Wars pack with about 8 characters and a few new stages for about $20. I doubt the $5 character is doing as wel as it could be doing in something that seems like a value. Again, it's tons of franchises they could of milked off of if they tapped into. SC4 weapon systems would fit a lot of them out there.
