Alienware Laptops

Anyone have one? I'm REALLY close to picking one up.

I don't want to hear arguments against why it's stupid to buy a gaming laptop. I just want to know how the quality is.

Also - anyone find any coupon codes?

Look, I'm not going to tell you that it's stupid to buy a gaming laptop. I'm just saying, an Alienware laptop will run you at least $1000. For that, you could get a $500 Gateway laptop for portablity, AND a $500 magic PC that will play all of the newest games.

I'm just saying.

I had one about four years ago. Had some fairly serious solder issues that rendered the beast a hefty paperweight. Their customer support wasn't exactly supportive. I'd stay away...

I've never had an Alienware laptop but the desktops I've had/seen on a regular basis have been rock solid. Customer support was so-so. But that was before the Dell deal so it might have improved. (Never had experience with Dell CS so maybe it's gotten worse.)

I've had a few friends use Alienware laptops that had nothing but problems with them. Granted, this was a few years back, and they may have improved quality control a bit.

I had one, it was solid as all hell, ran hot but also ran the games. Beefy and mean.
Also wayyy to expensive for what I got.

I'd go with the Dell XPS line.

I got a magic laptop for $1200. I even bought a cooler for it 'upgrading' the performance by a lot. Doesn't Alienware overcharge or have they changed?

I personaly love building PC's, but my Gateway laptop is well worth the price I paid.

Alienware's shit sucks and it's overpriced. Gateway makes awesome laptops for the money, and so does Dell. Skip Alienware and their retarded "because it's Alienware everything is 150% more" rip-off scheme.

Edit: For example, check out this BEASTLY laptop that's relatively cheap.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1218043606827

Kick-ass processor, 4 GB of RAM, a 1 GB 9800M GTS... that thing is probably comparable/better than your desktop. It's also got HDMI with HD audio...

I believe I hear *cocks head*... I think I hear this laptop calling your name, bap.

We've got a Sager laptop here in the office, which is what the Alienware laptops actually are. The thing is a monster, 19" screen, weighs about 15 - 20 lbs, definitely not a travel laptop (which I unfortunately know from experience). I think when we first got it we had to RMA it for another one as the wireless and audio was hosed, but the next one we got worked just fine. It kicks out a lot of heat, but I don't think we've actually made overheat in the 2 or 3 years we've had it.

We also have quite a few XPS M1730 laptops. Those are really nice. I haven't had much trouble with them outside of a few quirks, Intel's wireless software is garbage and I've had a bit of a battle with it on a couple machines. Oh, and no matter how much they try to tell you differently, XP is available on the XPS line.

The only problem Alienware has is its pricing. Everything else is fine. Pricing is everything though.

I should say I'm specifically looking at their 15" model. I got to use one at Comic-Con and it was damn sexy, ran Jumpgate on it's screen an a 46" LCD at the same time at 1080p and silky smooth.

Ummm... ok? That is known. Which is my entire point: Dell's XPS line is the SAME THING, but because it doesn't have the goofy Alienware branding, it's far more reasonably priced. Seriously, look at that laptop I linked, bap. That thing screams bang for the buck.

Eh...I'm not to keen on Gateway. Same thing with HP. Probably wouldn't buy their stuff.
