I hope you like Time Traveler's Wife more than BJ. I once had another guy at my job complain about the time travel. But he doesn't get the concept at all and I found it a complete waste of time for him.

I can't remember the details, but there are a couple of points where it loses all internal consistency, which is almost guaranteed insta-death for a time travel film, as far as I'm concerned. I also recall a complete lack of chemistry between the leads.

Read The Time Travelers Wife book instead. Much better than the god awful movie. BUT...if you must watch a time travel movie then (re)watch Star Trek IV or BTTF trilogy.

Time After Time is a great time traveling movie as well.

I saw Toy Story 3 for the second time today, and once again I loved it! My mom really liked it too. What a great movie!

I watched Agora last night and that was a great movie. I was expecting just a Roman historical drama, but it is really amazing from the philosophical standpoint that Hypatia represents contrasted with the others.

I haven't seen a worthwhile martial arts film in ages, and a friend recommended Ip Man to me today. It's a biopic based on the Wing Chun Grandmaster Ip Man, most famous as the mentor of Bruce Lee.

There's no mini-Bruce Lees in the film as it takes place around World War II. I read the blurb and kind of expected it to be a fairly slow paced, political drama (which I would have been ok with), and it does stay pretty serious in tone throughout the latter part of the film. But interspersed at regular intervals are plenty of fantastically choreographed fights, ranging from playful duels to the kind of brutal battles synonymous with Bruce Lee films.

It's just what I wanted to watch. If you have even the slightest interest in martial arts, definitely give this a watch. I'm going to have to hunt down more Donnie Yen films.

Yeah, Ip Man is the business. Me and my brother watched it one day. He has never been a subtitle man, but after that it was like his mind was open to kickass movies not in English. We both eagerly await the sequel. I doubt it'll be as good but one can hope.

I just watched...

100 Girls - It had tits in it. Can't be mad at that really.

Black Dynamite - At first I started taking it too serious but then it clicked for me. Very funny, and with layers. It's a bunch of gags you catch in later viewings. Like the militant who spoke his actions cues. I think it did keep pushing though longer than it should, but the 70s movies did too. Man behind the man, behind the man, behind the man... And it just goes all the way to the top. Seriously. I mean if he went on to fight the King of England I would of shrugged because it jumped the shark long before that. Still very entertaining.

Donnie Yen is fucking awesome. He really doesn't get enough attention or credit considering how much he kicks ass and how many good movies he's been in.
Wing Chun, Iron Monkey, and a ton of others. He's had bit parts in a few Hollywood movies as well: Blade II and Highlander: Endgame to name a couple.

According to his filmography, there's a listing for Ip Man II (2010) as well.
Apparently he's as awesome at getting women as he is at kicking ass:
(from Wiki)

Quote:
Yen married Cecilia Cissy Wang in Toronto in 2003. Wang was the champion of "Miss Chinese Toronto 2000" and winner of the "Miss Vitality" and "Miss Perfect Figure" awards.

Iron Monkey is one of my favourite kung Fu flicks. I once imortalized a scene from it in lego.

Avatar. Very predictable, very derivative, and very, very pretty. Exactly what I expected it to be. Cameron sure does know his sci-fi though. And I'm not sure if I mean that as a compliment or not.

Shutter Island. Scorsese / DiCaprio, cool mind-fuck film. Some superb cinematography and editing, very atmospheric. I passed on seeing it at the cinema for whatever reason, completely forgot it existed until now. It's been a good week for me catching up on films

Ok, who has seen The Last Air Bender?

I haven't and don't really follow the mythos behind it, but I am hearing its BAD. Like Battlefield Earth bad. Is this true or just internet critic hyperbole?

My just ( recently ) watched list.

The Blindside - Ok, but horrifically overrated. Almost paint by numbers at parts. And yes, I know it was based on a real story. Over all a good movie, but not an award winner.

Kick Ass - Really, it did. I loved this movie.

Watchmen:Uber fucking long Extended edition remix - Not sure what version it was, but it was 4 fucking hours long. Digital dong aside, it was merely ok. Frankly, didn't make a lot of sense. I really wish I watch the theatrical cut.

Legion - Dumb. Blew all its money shots on the trailer ( Ice Cream truck guy, and old lady ). Characters were quite annoying, but I had such low expectations going in that it was tolerable. After watching it my wife turned to me and said "Well, that was dumb". But, we finished it, so it obviously wasn't completely horrible, there are many films we just turned off.

Rotten Tomatoes scores aren't a great gauge for quality, especially with respect to comedies and blockbusters, but you have to keep in mind that the scores aren't aggregated or averaged. Less then 10% of the critics have anything positive to say about it. Now compare that to GI Joe, a largely panned movie from last year; it has 34%. This type of shit happens for one of only two reasons; the film is way ahead of its time or it just plain sucks. I haven't seen it, but something tells me its not the former. I'd rather watch the cartoon again(but my brother borked that for me )

You know what is a great way to measure or at least approximate the quality of a movie though? the IMDB score. Yes, yes I can hear the laughter from across the intertubes, but imdb all you favorite movies. None of them have scores less than 6.

The Good Guys. Yep good show. A bit slow at times. But B. Whiteford is awesome in it. And nasty.

Prince of Persia. Could have been good, even with the dodgy accents and the hordes of white people in the Middle East, but just seemed to lack something.

Also, whoever thought up *nnnggh* assandsins needs to be fucked up bad.
