Just watched Chronicle. It was pretty good, but I think would have been better without the found footage contrivance.

Also, the kid starts doing some simply stupid shit at the end.

Donning a fire suit and doing petty mugging and robbing a gas station? With his control over his powers he could have robbed nearly anything and gotten away clean. I get that he was distraught, but they were pulling more complicated shit at the beginning than that half-assed robbery.

Yeah, I thought the found footage thing started falling apart when they tried to make excuses for the 3rd person camera. By the last fight, the fact that Andrew was pulling various film gadgets off of tourists just felt a little silly. 'Grrrr! I'm angry! Ready your iPads so that I can admire my own fury!'

There was also a bit too much of a leap between his accident at the party and going all out psychotic on spiders and bullies.

Beneath the Darkness and Horsemen with Dennis Quaid. Both were good movies although Horsemen was by far the winner. I seem to be on a Quaid kick lately.

Horsemen was one of the few movies that got an "Oh, shit!" from me at the ending. Good movie.

Yeah, me too, although three quarters through the movie I was thinking, "I bet it's his son." lol Not from anything they gave away but just because it's the last thing you would expect.

Yeah, I suspected but they did a fantastic job of not telegraphing it like most movies do anymore. I am okay with with twists as long as they don't rub your face in it the whole movie before it happens. It seemed really solid.

Vanishing on 7th Street via Netflix. First off, the Netflix synopsis of the movie is so off base it's as if whomever wrote it didn't bother watching the movie or even reading the back of the DVD case. Second, an awesome movie. I really enjoyed it. Yes, it does have Hayden Christensen but, to be honest, if he's not reading George Lucas crap he is a surprisingly good actor. Highly recommend this one.

Absolutely.

When the Chinese girl held up that bag with the fetus in it I quite literally shouted, "Holy shit!" lol That was a brilliant bit of work there.

Under the category of movies I probably should have seen a long time ago: Full Metal Jacket.

I liked the movie, but I think it would have been better if they had just set the whole thing in the boot camp. The first half of the movie was awesome, but it got kind of boring once they actually went to Vietnam. The only good bit was Jayne Adam Baldwin.

As a Marine, I can tell you they needed to move on to Vietnam for the characters to grow and change. Trust me, an entire movie in Boot Camp would be boring as Boot Camp is very repetitive: yelling, PT (physical training), eating, marching, yelling, PT, eating, marching, etc.. Joker's evolution from a smart ass boot to a "hard core" mother fucker is what makes the movie.

Actually, I think the movie can't really be done any other way than as the 2 parter. The entire movie, IMHO is summed up with the conversation between Joker and the Colonel he meets by the mass grave. "The Duality of Man"

It's a movie about constant duality. The first part is the deconstruction of the men. The second part is a reconstruction into a different form. Pyle goes from a gentle soul with a simple mind, to basically a psychopath. Joker goes from someone to whom war is so far away for (so far he even jokes about getting the first kill on the block), to someone who is staring death in the eyes of a 14 year old girl. Everything about the movie is about setting up a scenario and contrasting it, while (I feel anyway) not taking sides or making judgements as to what's right or wrong, but just observing.
Just my 2 cents.

Full Metal Jacket is definitely a two views movie. I think Citizen Kane is too. If you don't like the whole package after two views, having digested the things people have said and giving it another chance, then it probably just isn't for you. But I think a lot of people become much more fond of FMJ after the second viewing.

Next movie down: The New Daughter. Starts off a bit cliche: dad is divorced, moves out into the middle of nowhere with two kids into a giant old house, etc. Some things lined up too easily but in the end it turned out to be a really cool monster movie. Definitely recommend it. Oh, also stars Kevin Costner whom I always find it hard not to like.

Also, the sum up of FMJ by Khrymsyn was dead on. Who knew Jarheads could be so complex in a movie?

Agreed on all accounts. To me, FMJ's entire point is to show the arc of Joker's character going from a cynical, almost arrogant observer into someone who understands the real costs of war. The movie events try to systematically break down his humorous defense mechanisms in the face of fear and death. I think he is nicknamed very aptly and his Duality speech is important, definitely.

Also, the performances are fucking stellar. Vincent D'Onofrio, Adam Baldwin, Legendary R. Lee Ermey and others are at their very best here.

So it turns out, the book that was the basis for Full Metal Jacket is available for free. And then, also turns out there was a sequel as well! Continuing adventures of Private Joker. Fuck yeah!

Fantastic movie. Brilliant on so many levels.

I had one issue with how they resolved
Owen Wilson's character's 'infidelity'. I don't like it when the plot conveniently intervenes to make a crucial decision easier for the protagonist. So it's perfectly alright for him to get out of his engagement because - ta da! - his wife was cheating on him.

But the more I think of it, the more I can live with it, and even appreciate how organically the whole thing unfolded. Great characters all around.

What's worst than the remake of Clash of The Titans? The sequel.

Save that 99 minutes for something else.
