TJ Miller is indeed very funny.

Iron Sky

Pretty damn good. Not all the way up there in classic cheesy sci-fi satire, like Starship Troopers and RoboCop, but it's close. Beats Mars Attacks! handily. There are some great nods to other films, both classic and B, and the whole movie was really well thought out.

Much better than I expected. And I'm hella glad the trailer did as much as it did.

Project X

One of the worst movies I've ever seen. And it has nothing to do with my getting older. If I could back in time to two days when I watched it, I would have beat shit out of two-day younger me.

Moonrise Kingdom

Solid. Very good. I wasn't a huge fan of Rushmore or Royal Tenenbaums, and maybe that was because I saw them after they hyped to ridiculous levels. I've enjoyed Anderson's more recent work a lot more.

Fantastic Mr. Fox is still his most successful and complete movie. But I think that's a classic, and it's OK if he never reaches that height again.

Just finished John Carter and I really, really enjoyed it. Thinking back on the box office performance is making me sad right now.

Watching Haywire. I'm surprised Ben Kingsley and Malcolm McDowell haven't made an appearance.

I'm glad you liked it. I thought it was among his best as well.

A rarity: a good recent episode of the Simpsons.

Rewatched Sleepaway Camp I-III tonight. The first is still one of my favorite slashers, and the second is pretty solid... the third is better than I remember, but still crappy and disjointed. Probably better than the oh-so-trashy Return to Sleepaway Camp or whatever that was called; the one with some of the original cast. I hear that there is actually a Sleepaway Camp IV in line with the continuity of II/III, but apparently it's like ten minutes of terrible new footage strung together with clips of the first three movies. For only $15 I could buy the DVD and find out, but I think I'll just go ahead and skip that.

Sleepaway Camp II might be an underrated classic of the genre, actually. Many of the kills are creative, the characters are fun, and it's interesting that you know who the killer is right from the beginning, and the killer also gets more screen time than anyone. You can watch II and III on Netflix, but you really shouldn't unless you've seen the first one.

I watched Nightmare on Elm Street 3 this weekend. Wow, I can't believe I ever found those movies scary.

Finally got around to seeing Chronicle. Honestly I feel they could have ditched the whole found footage angle and just made a movie about 3 high schoolers with super powers. I enjoyed the story overall and the slow progression of the characters, but the found footage felt very forced past the half way point of the movie.

Ha, I feel the same way when I hear people go "I haven't watched any of the Friday the 13th because they're too scary!" and I must respond with "They're more hilarious than scary."

I was just listening to a podcast with Tina Fey where they were discussing the penis from the first one. *shudder*

I avoided it when it came out because it was dogpiled with hate and derision but boy was I wrong. Finally watched Brokeback Mountain and it's a beautiful, heartbreaking, gorgeously subtle film with fantastic performances. Absolutely loved it.

That movie would be remembered more fondly if it ended 20 minutes earlier than it did. :P

The Pacific - I will watch Band of Brothers again; I've watched it a few times already. I will not be watching The Pacific a second time.

Too bad it's not coming to any theaters near me.

I loved Rushmore and Royal Tenenbaums. I usually list the latter as my favorite movie.

That reminds me - just checked Amazon, and they have Royal Tenenbaums bu-ray listed for this August. So is Life Aquatic the last main Wes Anderson film that's not out on blu-ray yet/soon? That's the one I really need to re-watch, as I've only seen it once, quite some time ago.
