Fuck man I slept through CPPS.
Also, Shutter Island is Scorcese's tribute to Hitchcock. If you like hitchcockian thrillers, you'll like it!

Watched Salt last night. Better than I expected considering mostly tepid reviews. With a little more polish it could've been a worthy rival to the Bourne series.

I saw Salt a few days ago, and I really enjoyed it. I thought it was very well done, although the ending was an obvious lead in to a sequel.

Watched Daybreakers, turned a very cool premise of a dying vampire society into a mediocre flick. Not terrible, but it could have been much better.

Agreed. Some nice imagery, but poor execution..

I hated Daybreakers so very much. I'm sure a lot of that has to do with my unrealistic expectations. Such a cool concept. sigh.

If they had kept it in the direction I thought it was going at one point, like a noir detective story set in a vampire world, I could have dug it oh, so much. But it was pretty rubbish as soon as they introduced the rogue cell of humans.

Agreed. The first half-hour of the movie was intriguing, then it just fell all to shit the further along it went. Also, I blame Ethan Hawke. I just don't like the guy. He's like a poor man's Matt Damon, and that's saying something.

I also hate Ethan Hawke, but I always thought of him as a poor man's Skeet Ulrich. He did absolutely nothing for an already sub-par movie.

![]() Maybe my expectations were too high for Daybreakers, or the fact that it started off much better than it ended, but yes, it was disappointing overall. Hawke never adds anything to his movies, which is part of why I dislike him. If it hadn't been for Denzel Washington, Training Day would have been just as bland and pointless. He is simply there. |

But seriously... yeah, the guy seems set against adding any interpretation to his roles, and it's baffling because it sounded like he was the next big thing for a while. The only role I honestly recall liking him in was in Fast Food Nation, and I don't even remember what it was I liked about the performance. I think he just came across as sort of affable and smart-alecky.

Hey stop talking about Skeet! I always thought of him as the poor man's Johnny Deep. Although now Deep done went on to make a mega name for himself.

Ethan Hawke just makes me think I'm watching a soggy blob of papermache squidging about the screen. No definition, no form. He's just a guy taking up space. |

I was gonna get all mad and dispute you people, then I realized the guy I was thinking of is actually Josh Hartnett.

And Sin City, and Hollywood Homicide (Shut up, I liked that movie, and so did Ebert so that means I win). He's great.

Well, 40 Days and 40 Nights, and 30 Day of Night weren't all that great. Ever seen this gem, Mozart and the Whale. He's alright.

Valhalla Rising - Kind of like an acid-trip/arthouse take on Conan the Barbarian. It's slow, meandering, strange, and not for everyone. Maybe for no one. I liked it a ton until the end (as with most films) and while it's hard to recommend, I've been thinking about it alot the past few days.
I also saw The Girl Who Played with Fire (not as good as the first film, but still an interesting murder mystery) and The Ghost Writer. I usually like Polanski films, but thought he over-directed what could have been a really compelling thriller. Too many red herrings and a weak ending compared to the novel. |
