Oh, Eidos... Again? Soul Bubbles - GotY!

What do you do if you work for a large publisher and you want your game to be recognized on the end of year polls in Australia's biggest and most respected independent magazine? Why, you vote for it yourself, that's what!

"ChaoticJack," deputy editor at Hyper Magazine, even went so far as to post a not-too-subtle request to the perpetrator - The 2008 Game of the Year Awards are off to a solid start, with numerous votes being cast for a wide range of games. Many of you are voting and participating in the spirit in which the awards are offered, and for that we thank you. However, we ask others who are voting in an opposing manner to please rethink their actions.

As an example, we can appreciate a game publisher's allegiance towards one of its titles, but would prefer it if an account using an "@eidos.co.uk" e-mail address would not vote for one of its own games across a number of different categories.

Soul Bubbles. Soul. Bubbles. I mean, fair enough if it was Tomb Raider, but Soul Bubbles?

Source

Thanks to "Soul Bubbles" for the tip. I kid you not - I got this tip in an email from someone who called themselves Soul Bubbles!

I wouldn't say them voting for their own product is a bad thing necessarily, but the way they did it is ridiculous.

That's really funny. Now I feel like Soul Bubbles can cure AIDS and stop hate crimes.

I honestly can't tell if you were being facetious or not and I really don't follow DS news but based on the video you posted the game does look pretty good.

It can...if you believe enough in it.

Too bad they didn't promote the game this well before it came out. Looks like it got a Metacritic score of 78 (very high for a DS game), but I had never heard of it before today and I'm one of the people who have played nearly all of the games that show up on Turning the Spigot.

It makes me think Kirby rip-off from those videos. . . so I'm not interested. I like platformers, but not in the palm of my hand. If I'm going to gauge jump lengths, I want to be able to put english on them without moving the screen about, and I want my hands to be comfortable the whole time.

I don't find the fake word of mouth campaign scary. This one pretty lame.

What I find scary is that advertising companies will keep trying until it works.

Also, I find it weird that they spent out a Nintendo Power "Award", the last game I bought on that publication's recommendation was called Mega Man 2

Hyper? Our most respected magazine? No wonder games cost so much. We're completely backward here.

Oh, and to stay on topic...um...Shame, Eidos. Shame.

Dude, if you worked on the game, you had BETTER believe it's GOTY. The team behind Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness said it was worth 8 out of 10. How'd that turn out?

If you work for a company that can't honestly assess their work then the company's internal communication is sick and it is unlikely they'll be able to produce anything worth a crap unless there is a despotic genius running the show who is allowed to be critical. Even then, it is extremely inefficient.

In fairness, he's starting to warm up to the idea. If ever there was a chance for you to turn him fully to the dark side this is it.
