Gears 2 Info Emerges: Original Maps as Day 1 DLC

Gears of War 2 is coming and it will own your soul!

King3567 over at Evil Avatar got his issue of Gamepro early, and revealed a dump truck full of new information about Gears of War 2.

First up is Epic and Microsoft's ingenious method of dissuading used purchases of the game: all new copies of the game will come with a single-use code which will let you download five maps from the original Gears: Gridlock, Subway, Canals, Mansion, and Tyro Station.

Some changes to the enemies roster. Kryll and Berserkers are out, Butchers, Maulers, Grinders, Rockworms and Kantus are in.

Two new weapons - a minigun and a mortar launcher - which will drastically slow you down while you use them, but the destructive power they bring to bear compensates for that.

Items you find along the way will greatly flesh out the story, which sounds similar to the recorded messages in Bioshock.

The previously announced photo editor won't ship with the game, but Epic hopes to make it available as a title update soon after launch.

Gears of War 2 is scheduled for release on November 7th for the Xbox 360.

Not only does that dissuade pre-owned copies, but rentals as well.

The only problem I can foresee with this are the toolbags who'll buy multiple copies of the game, sell them/trade them in right away for max value, and sell the codes seperate on eBay.

It's always inevitable with stuff like this.

Perhaps, I like Criterion's approach way more. Distinct free content that alters the way you play the game is a great incentive.

Now that's a way to get people to buy new copies of your game instead of whining about used sales of your game.

This sucks, when someone with a used copy tries to get in the game but the user base is already splintered. There will always be some people who only play for the single player.
