The virtual battle of the sexes

Quote:
Picture a typical player of a massively multiplayer game such as World of Warcraft and most people will imagine an overweight, solitary male.

But this stereotype has been challenged by a study investigating gender differences among gamers.

It found that the most hard-core players are female, that gamers are healthier than average, and that game playing is an increasingly social activity.

Despite gaming being seen as a male activity, female players now make up about 40% of the gaming population.

The virtual battle of the sexes

Female gamers are kicking our ass now and we still can't tell if they're females?

I played a Gears gamer once who was a model.

Some guy was mouthing off about it being crap etc etc, she told him to check out her website (personal and not x rated modeling).

The rest of the match he was being really nice to her, lol.

Checked the site out later and she was hot, and had a bit in her profile about being a gamer.

She's was pretty good at Gears so it's all good! (and yes, she was kicking ass in the match).

I know a few girl gamers, no MMO crowds though.

Many studies have shown that this is not in any way true. Female gamers do NOT make up the hardcore demographic.
EDIT: But it is indeed cool when the girls like the games as they say.

Yeah, everything I've seen previously had them SLIGHTLY ahead in "online gaming", which included Peggle and other PopCap games.

Actually, it's probably fine right where it is. I think more people visit the Lounge than all of the rest of the forums combined.
