Aquaria on Steam

If you haven't played the phenomenal indie game Aquaria yet, shame on you. However, you now have a better reason than ever before to pick it up. The game is now on Steam, complete with Steam achievements and a lower introductory price of $15.99.

Never heard of it (to my shame). Looks like I'll pick it up after I'm done with Advent Rising which I bought off Steam at the weekend. Yeah, Steam, why don't I just give you my bank details and you can suck me dry without me having to do anything.

I wanted this game when it first released, but it slipped by me. I'll pick it up in the New Year when I have some scratch; I've blown it all on the kids for Christmas.

I've also never heard of it, but the banner looks intriguing.

...and upon watching the trailer, it looks like Ecco with some light shooting. I might go for that.

Awesome, now if only Steam would start and they'd answer my support question.

FANTASTIC game. Glad to see it where it can get some better exposure.

It's pretty much Ecco the Dolphin + MetroidVania.

He's right. Its Castlevania, Metroid, And Ecco put together. I bought this game about six or seven months ago, and still play it at times. It's beautiful beyond words, the music is wonderful, and the ocean vast. Voice acting is pretty damn spiffy too.

I can't think of a game I would recommend more highly than Aquaria, and I'm damn glad it will get exposure via steam this way. As a comical side note, the guys who made I'm Ok, You're Ok. (The game to shut Jack Thompsan up that video gamers wouldn't make a game about killing their own) are the ones who made this later. From violent parody to beautiful seas.

That's a great description!

It also features some of the most amazing background music I've heard in a long time. And the story is very well crafted. This is a MUST-PLAY indie title, if there ever was one.

Golly, trying to fix this shit is awesome.

Do yourselves a favor, avoid Steam on this, unless you want to watch Updating - 97% the rest of your life.

On the game, I did play the demo a long time ago, it was pretty god damn amazing as I recall.

Sounds very interesting. I'll probably pick it up and add to my ever-growing Steam backlog.

I bought this game from their website when it came out.

As others have said it's an underwater Metroidvania. Check it out, you won't be disappointed, the game is great. Item collection, transformations, interesting enemies, what are you waiting for!?

Huh. That trailer makes it look like underwater Castlevania with a hint of R-Type.

Me wants. Sigh. Just when I thought I had everything finished for the year. It helps that it looks gorgeous. I'll probably snag this tonight.

Highly recommended. 23 thumbs up.

There was also a Mac port released last month if that's anyone's bag.

Also, if you dig the artwork in the game you may wish to check out Derek Yu's website. He is a twisted, twisted individual.

Was there something wonky with Steam last night? I tried to buy this and iFluid but it kept sending me to a login screen within the Steam client... that I was already logged into. And then I couldn't log in. It was strange.

Several people have been having problems with Steam lately. The culprit is supposedly a Left 4 Dead update. I don't know all of the details, but there are a few threads about it on the Steam forums.

I Fluid is great by the way. You'll have to let me know what you think of it, and Aquaria. I'll probably play both of them this weekend.

A few more features for those interested:

* Over 175 strange and wonderful creatures (including several massive bosses)
* 8 magical forms with unique abilities
* 50 original music tracks by Alec
* Over 2000 pieces of hand-painted artwork by Derek

Sorry if I seem like a salesman here, but I really loved this game. Bit Blot deserves as many sales as they can get. The forms really add a lot to it, and you can switch between them on the fly using the spellcasting system, which is the colored ring you see appear around the player in the video several times. You learn magic spells that you cast from the ring system (like the spell she uses to move the giant rock), and it's tone based, sort of musical.

I really don't need anymore games to play, but I will be picking this up this weekend.

Hopefully the Steam weekend deal is either something horrible or something I already have.
