X-Men Origins: Wolverine Coming to Every Console Next Year

Rather than continue the X-Men movie franchise after Brett Ratner drove it into the ground and salted the earth under which is lay, Fox decided to go the prequel route with X-Men Origins: Wolverine. This movie will see Hugh Jackman reprise his role as everyone's favorite Canadian. It will also include appearances by pretty much every character ever portrayed in an X-Men comic. So, of course they're making a game out of it.

But hold on, things may not be that bad this time around. The game is being developed by Raven Software (Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Soldier of Fortune, Jedi Outcast), the game will be (what else) a hack and slash with plenty of blood, combos and finishers.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is scheduled for a May release on the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PS2, DS and PSP.

I can't help wanting to play games set in the Marvel universe, so I'll definitely give this a go.

I'd really, really like to play a decent Wolverine game. Call me cautiously optimistic...

Hugh Jackman is playing Dave Foley?

(Everyone, feel free to quote this and add in your own Canadian!)

I heard it was rated T, not M. I can't find the source, so I can't confirm, but I definitely read that the other day. Doesn't mean it would be a bad game, but it might not have the level of blood that it should.

Honestly tho, I'm looking forward to it. It looks absolutely gorgeous.

Hugh Jackman as Neil Peart? I can't wait to hear him tear up the drums.

Hopefully this won't suck as bad as the last Wolverine game. X2: Wolverine's revenge was just a disappointing mess. Please, please, puh-leeeeaaaase, let this game be good.

The guys who made Heretic II (doing things with the Quake2 engine that were way ahead of its time) making a Wolverine brawler? My wallet is open.

Also, I think I am the only person who didn't hate the last X-Men movie. I still love the Wolverine/Phoenix scenes towards the end.

This always makes me roll my eyes.

Wolverine existed as a comic book character when the comic code authority held an iron fist over what could and couldn't be shown in comics, yet he managed to shine through as an awesome character even through heavy censorship. Atop that, he has appeared in CARTOON versions of the X-Men. Surely he can handle playing to the T rating in a game and still come out looking like a champ.

If the developers DO add a lot of blood, then I hope they give me a way to turn it off.

Well, in no way would it make me like the game any less, just like it didn't in the comics. The difference is, to me, is the implied action between panels, in the comic books. By the very nature of comics you are required to fill in the blanks of what is happening between panels, and in my head there was always an appropriate level of blood and gore that would come with cutting a dude with three claws, and I certainly wouldn't mind seeing that shit in action. I want spray, I want entrails spilling out, I want heads to roll off into the distance. I don't expect it, but I want it!

I can't see Marvel allowing this property to rated M in a game. Less sales...it needs to be T if it's going to sell at it's full potential.

Woohoo. Another old time comic book collector. The code is such a non-issue now. But as the phrase goes...back in the day...
