Eidos Montreal Announces Deus Ex: Universe

Eidos Montreal has a rather ambitious plan for the future of Deus Ex. They call it Deus Ex Universe, but that isn't a single game, but rather an overarching title for future projects. I think they'd better explain it.

Quote:
The concept behind Deus Ex: Universe is to create an ongoing, expanding and connected game world built across a generation of core games. Itís a commitment on our part to deliver meaningful content that expands the franchise on a regular basis and to deliver a deep conspiracy that will span several connected Deus Ex games, creating a more immersive and richer experience than ever before. Deus Ex: Universe will include PC and console games, but also additional Deus Ex games and experiences available in other media such as tablets, smartphones, books, graphic novels, etc... You might have seen the name pop up recently in the press Ė well this is what itís all about.
It's ambitious sounding. It's also something that other developers have promised in the past, and the results have never quite lived up to the announced vision.

But, the start of a new console generation is the best time to launch a project of this scope. Developers love to talk about creating a game that is a platform onto itself, but few have even come close to achieving that goal. The Deus Ex universe itself has a lot of material to mine, so they may be the ones to make a project of this scope a reality.

Sounds like the Tom Clancy (RIP) series of games how they wanted to have a connected world between the different games. I don't believe they delivered on that, but maybe not everyone in Montreal is drinking the same water.

My first thought on reading the title was "oh no not another MMO" but this sounds much better! I didn't find human revolution to be amazing but it was a enjoyable solid game. I'd be happy for their to be a larger plan so to avoid any deus ex machima type endings and have it all tie into larger schemes

I should also note that 'Deus Ex Universe' sounds like a 90s Marvel Comics crossover.

Could be fun, could also be a blatant money grab. I hope for the former, but very much fear the latter.

When i first saw Eidos, I thought it was about Ian Livingstone retiring.

This is better news! I really dug the first one. Even the boss battles everyone whined about.

I am really excited about getting more Deus Ex, but I'm a little concerned that it will get the Assassins Creed treatment. We must have a game this year! And Next Year regardless of quality.

Hope the scope is more ME or Skyrim than the last game. I liked bits of it but the hubs were terribly small for the story they tried to pull off.

And I still have to see a good smartphone use for shit like this.

I liked the hubs. They were small but really detailed and fleshed out; Most were anyways. There were also a few pretty good sized ones. Like the first Chinese city one.

I do worry about this scope of this "universe."

Magneto is dead, his mind transferred into a machine created by The Scarlet witch. But Magnebot only remembers his Romani childhood and and refers to himself as Machina. Also has some of Wandas power fro plot reason, tries to rewrite the universe. Scott Lobdell/Rob Liefeld.
