New UFC 2009 Screenshots

http://ve3tro.com/1653/ufc-2009-undi...-screenshots/?

I'm more curious about how this game is gonna play. MMA is a complex sport, and I'm not sure how good the controls will be.

I was wondering about that too. Will there be room for improvisation, or will there just be standard moves based on the position you're in, like in the WWE games?

I hope they have made it so you can fight as freely as possible. As you said, MMA is a complex sport, and the unexpected can happen in each fight.

Too bad the game only covers UFC (and maybe WEC?). Then again, they're the ones paying for it.

To me, the crucial aspect will be in the transitions and how well it can flow from standing, to clinch, to mount, taking back, etc...

Unless they can make those transitions feel smooth and unobtrusive, this game will just be another wrestling game clone.

And if they have captured the intricacies of the ground game. It's a lot more to it than ground'n'pound, especially when BJJ specialists fight.

Getting the controls to feel natural and intuitive with so many contexts is a challenge. With boxing it's easy, the opponents are just standing and trading punches. :P

I really do not see how MMA can translate into a good video game. Just too complex to emulate with a controller.

Are you folks forgetting UFC on the Dreamcast?

Good times...punch...kick...fall on ground...submission...

Okay...it didn't score well...other than a random 9.2 from Gamespot...

I haven't forgotten it. I actually liked that game too. Each face button corresponded to a different limb (i.e. X = Left Hand Strike), and holding 2 different buttons down resulted in different takedown attempts (which could be countered). If you got someone down in full guard you could go for the G&P, or could try for an armbar...

Now that I know UFC a lot better I probably could pick apart a lot wrong about the game, but at the time I thought it was pretty dang cool.
