Disney To Buy Lucasfilm

The Walt Disney Company has agreed to acquire Lucasfilm Ltd. in a stock and cash transaction. Lucasfilm is 100% owned by Lucasfilm Chairman and Founder, George Lucas.

Under the terms of the agreement and based on the closing price of Disney stock on October 26, 2012, the transaction value is $4.05 billion, with Disney paying approximately half of the consideration in cash and issuing approximately 40 million shares at closing. The final consideration will be subject to customary post-closing balance sheet adjustments.

Was just about to post this. Star Wars Episode 7 is set for release in 2015 according to that.

I was hoping they would leave it alone, the 6 movies on their own are just fine.

More Star Wars is fine as long as Lucas is only around as an advisor (or not involved). I'm happy as long as I get lightsabers.

Good on him for selling it all for a measly 4 Billion. I guess that Lucasfilm and Pixar are finally back together again.

If true, I can see the new Star Wars thing going both ways. The shitty way the new trilogy went, or a surprisingly delightful way free from Lucas' withering touch of pain and agony.

This is...interesting. I've sworn off giving Lucas more of my money, but have no such compunctions about Disney. If Lucas is truly out of the next movies I may have to reconsider and dip my toe in the water again.

Long term though? What post-original story would you like see in Episode 7, or is there something that is canon?

I predict the EU to become an alternate reality. Which we should have done after Episode 1.

And I'm also on the "It can be the best or worst thing to happen to the franchise. I'm wondering if it can be worse without Lucas."

And what the heck, Disney is too big, I don't want them to keep gobbling. They haven't ruined Marvel but I don't like huge corporations that are too big for their own good. Like Viacom, etc. Oh well.

If we have to have more star wars films, I can't imagine anything that would improve their chances better than to keep Lucas as far from them as possible.

So now the people who just had Joss Whedon do an Avengers movie own the rights to Star Wars? I'm hoping for a show/movie about a rag-tag group of ex-military freelancers traveling the galaxy in their spaceship running into trouble, picking up troubled teenage psychics, and taking out philosophical bounty hunters.
