US PlayStation Store Update 10/16/12

After last week’s update this one looks rather tame. PlayStation Plus members get PAYDAY: The Heist for free, early access to the next “arty” PSN game, Unfinished Swan, and the PS3 version of the PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale beta (live for everyone next week). The Vita gets puzzle/platformer Dokuro as well as access for everyone to the All Stars Beta. This year’s Halloween sale goes live this week, with a large number of games discounted pretty deeply, from Dead Space 2 to House of the Dead to Costume Quest. The full update from the PlayStation Blog:

PS3
  • Arkedo Series ($5.99)
  • Of Orcs and Men ($49.99)
  • 007 Legends ($59.99, $53.99 for Plus members)
  • DOOM 3 BFG Edition ($39.99)
  • Wheel of Fortune ($29.99)
  • Jeopardy! ($29.99)
  • The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe ($9.99) [PS2]
Vita
  • Dokuro ($19.99)
  • Silent Hill: Book of Memories ($39.99)
  • PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale PS Vita Beta
  • Breakquest: Extra Evolution ($3.99) [Minis]
  • Front Mission 3 [PS1]
PlayStation Plus

People should give the All Stars beta a shot, it's a lot more fun than I thought it would be.

I'm curious about the NLKS DLC. I wonder if it's just cosmetic stuff...

I got all of the current PS Plus games, plus I bought the Zen Pinball 2 pack that is on sale, and Monster World IV.

Follow the link to the blog, it gives descriptions for each item. It looks like they're a little more than cosmetic, but it also seems like they're going to try to nickel and dime you for a while.

That's been up for a while, you can now just download it from the Vita store. They've done a much better job with the PS1 games on the Vita, I think as it stands now only about 15 games can't be played on it. Of course, those 15 include the Crash and Spyro games, they need to fix that ASAP.

Yeah. It's getting them on the Vita that's the issue for me. My PS3 is still in pieces

Isn't there a way to buy those things on PC and transfer them? I thought I heard something about that.

Hmm... It's tempting to get the season pass thing, since it looks like there is going to be a LOT of DLC... and yeah... it's not just cosmetic. ARG!

Must resist...

Nope, Sony has never implemented a PC store, which is completely asinine. You can use the content manager software to store games and saves, but you can't actually purchase and download anything that way.

From what I can tell these are the only PS1 games you can't play on Vita right now:
  • Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare
  • Arc the Lad III
  • Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain
  • Crash Bandicoot
  • Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back
  • Crash Bandicoot: Warped
  • Crash Team Racing
  • Darkstalkers 3
  • Final Fantasy V
  • Future Cop: LAPD
  • Pocket Fighter
  • R-Type Delta
  • R-Types
  • Spyro The Dragon
  • Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage
  • Spyro: Year of the Dragon

And these are the games you can play, but only via PS3 transfer:
  • Alundra
  • Arcade Hits: Shienryu
  • Arcade Hits: Sonic Wings Special
  • Burst Angel
  • Castlevania Chronicles
  • Castlevania: SotN
  • Cho Aniki
  • Cool Boarders
  • GaiaSeed
  • International Track and Field
  • Klonoa
  • Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
  • Legend of Dragoon
  • Metal Gear Solid
  • Money Idol Exchanger
  • Pandemonium
  • Rapid Angel
  • Ridge Racer 4
  • Silent Hill
  • Sorcerer’s Maze
  • Suikoden
  • Toy Story 2
  • Toy Story Racer
  • Unjammer Lammy

Everything else is on the Vita store. On both of those lists there are some pretty big games, they need to speed up the process of getting everything on the Vita store.

Yeah. Being unable to purchase things on the PC is insanely annoying. With my PS3 out of commission, I'd love to just buy a bunch of stuff on the PSN store via my PC so that when I get a replacement, I can just set it up and let the content flow in. It's especially galling when there's a time-limited sale or Plus sale and I can't participate. ARG!

I dunno about tame, there are some pretty great discounts that caught my eye this week:
Monster World IV – PS Plus Price: $1.00
The House of the Dead Overkill Bundle – PS Plus Price: $15.39
Dead Rising 2 Off The Record – PS Plus Price: $9.79
Dead Space 2 – PS Plus Price: $9.79
Odin Sphere – PS2 Classic (now: $4.99 original price: $9.99)

The House of the Dead bundle is Overkill, 3, and 4. Apart from missing 2 it's pretty much all the HotD you could ever want.

I'm going to grab Monster World IV and Mutant Blobs Attack and that will probably be it. That discounted Zen Pinball Monsters bundle is tempting, 3 tables for just over $4, but I don't know. Odin Sphere is tempting too, since I never played it, but again, I doubt I'll get around to it.

I'd get the House of the Dead bundle if I had a Move controller, but I don't. I just can't see playing a light gun game with a regular controller. I need to get a Move controller one of these days for that specific reason.

I'm assuming that one day I'll find Move in a discount bin somewhere so I would be buying it with that in mind. However, for the time being I've only bought:
Monster World IV – PS Plus Price: $1.00
Dead Rising 2 Off The Record – PS Plus Price: $9.79
Dead Space 2 – PS Plus Price: $9.79

Full PS3 games for $10 is pretty good when you don't live in the US .

Yeah, that is pretty great. They're starting to approach Steam level prices for some of these, which is very, very dangerous.

Hm, seems like Gamestop had some Move controllers used that I could get pretty cheap; I think I looked at them and saw that I could get a Move controller and the Navigator (or whatever) for like $50. I'd also need to get a Playstation Eye though.

I'm hoping for a Black Friday deal on one of the bundles, there are enough arcade shooters out there that it's worth it at this point. Plus I still have Dead Space Extraction to play that came free with Dead Space 2.

Here's how the store will look as of next week:

I'm not sure what to think, the bigger pictures look nice and all but it's not showing as much info on each screen.
