Batman Beyond The Dark Knight

Is it too soon to talk about Batman post-Dark Knight Trilogy? Maybe. However, let's get to it anyways.

What do you want to happen next?

Who do you think would make the best Batman for the new movies?

What direction do you want the franchise to go in?

Villain(s)?

Any other thoughts?

---------

The choice for a new actor to play Batman and Bruce Wayne is going to have to be spot on. I was skeptical when Bale was announced for Batman Begins, but thanks to a combination of great storytelling and inspired supporting cast, Christian Bale became Batman and Bruce Wayne for the last seven or eight years.

Director, too, has to be someone who knows what they hell they're doing. Someone like PT Anderson would be cool. He knows how to tell a story and has a knack for great casting. Or Sam Mendes?

I mentioned it in a different thread, but I would like to see at least one theatrical animated Batman movie. Big budget, pull out all the stops, with a really amazing style.

This would allow some of the more fantastical villains, like Clayface, to get some screen time without looking ridiculous.

I'd prefer traditional 2D animation, but wouldn't balk at a stylish 3D.

Of course, Kevin Conroy would play the lead.

I been thinking about it and it's something I'd have to pour a lot of thought into. More thought than I have time into for details. I didn't really feel any of the movies in this last trilogy were really "Batman" films as opposed to movies with a Batman character and coat of painting. Maybe the first, but it had other "feel" issues for me.

In my head I'm searching for the things I really liked about the animated series. Same for the Superman movie. I liked how the villains almost always got probably more screen time than Batman(or Superman). You were presented with a problem and their convictions which humanized them and in comes the heroes to solve the problem. All while showing them the work. Also, probably less Bruce Wayne. Worked for both the show and the recent games. He's the mask, so portray him more so. As opposed to Superman who was always Clarke until he needed to be his mask. Masks stay off until needed.

Maybe Batman doesn't have to be a mouth breather. Or speak like he smokes cigarettes or a growling. That's just too many people I'd look at instead of slapping familiar face on it. Figure out a way to make his fights more ninja stylish, less Bourne. Guess in that regard I'd action it up a bit more. I'd also probably add a bit more sleuthing on his part? World famous detective and all. I'd cut the origin down to a footnote. I mean if there is one person who didn't know he is who is because of what happened, there is no help for them.

I don't know, just rambling. The movies were fine in some regards but it's not the end all be all of Batman in no regards. You could of slapped generic hero in place and it would of been almost the same. Ok maybe that's harsh but I don't know. meh.

Oh god... and villain choice. For the future. That would be a toughie. With out threading on what's so recent.

I first saw this title and thought it was Batman Beyond: The Dark Knight. Like some new version of Batman Beyond that would come out. I loved that series. But as for future movies, heck just keep what they have going, but avoid a reboot if possible. I know that there is nothing coming after The Dark Knight, but one can hope that minds can be changed.

Trying to keep up what they have going without the creative team before gets you Joel Schumacher Batman movies.

I think the trilogy covered things to well. It's going to take someone else very good to come up with an idea for this.... Unfortunately I can't see them doing another movie for at least 5 years unless they need money.

One thing I did notice while watching the movies in a row, is the evolution of the batman / Bruce dynamic. In the first it covered well Bruce becoming batman/ dark knight it showed more that bruce with or without the mask was batman/ rises showed basically batman becoming Bruce Wayne again.

They just seen that Avengers money and have it rattling in their head with no announced plans. I mean cause if it's the case, all of them need to be rebooted.

From what I've seen of the Superman movie, the look doesn't really lend itself to other characters showing up. Feels insular.

I'd like to see a reboot. I'm not particularly fond of Nolan's Batman, and I'd like to see someone else's creative vision of the character and Gotham. Maybe somewhere between Nolan and Burton?

Maybe team up Bruce Timm and Brad Bird?

Whatever it is, it'll be out in like four years and probably suck.

I do agree with Xerxes, though. Moar Batman, less Bruce Wayne.

I want the Batman from the Arkham games. A brilliant, tech savvy detective. Someone who understands the use of fear before fists, thought before thrashing.

Nolan gave us a mumbling pugilist. The best thing to come out of the trilogy was Ledger's Joker, who ranks among the greatest movie villains of all time IMO.

I agree with civil. Bruce Wayne in Nolan's films is such a non-character. I couldn't tell you one character defining trait he had other than his bat voice. I mean, really. How could you make Batman boring?

I didn't even like him that much. Wasn't cheery enough in his madness. And that whole "who is Batman" seemed like a Riddler trait. And if anyone does have another Joker, PLEASE don't string him up in the end. You pan out with his ass straight jacketed in Arkham. >_<

Me too. The Arkham Bats, and the Animated Bats are still the best portrayals I've seen.

And guess what, they both have Kevin Conroy. The man who ruined Batman for every other actor.

I couldn't get into the first Arkham Asylum. It felt a little too by the numbers for me. I don't know, I should give it another swing.

It is a bit, it's a very standard plot, and the Titan bit was stupid. But it's a fun game, and some of the dialogue is still spot on to the characters.

Dini knows his Bats. In particular, he knows how to write a Bats who's a good guy, not just a barely restrained psychopath.

It freaks me out when you nerds say "Bats" or "Supes".

I feel as if I'm in the midst of some Sweet Valley High drama.
