Shouldn't you be writing a "Turn the Spigot" article or something. I am sure I saw a headline about a new one.

Now I have to go find Gabe and give him a kiss.

I swear its like watching a movie after an apocalypse and those people that left go back to being roving people who fight first and ask questions later. People are de-evolving around me.
Does this move involve them relocating their own computers? Or is it just limited to papers, decorations, personal effects, etc. (I'm assuming they aren't tasked with moving their own office furniture.)

Played some more Rhythm Thief tonight. I love all of the mixed up things it gets you to do.
You're thinking of expanded or extended memory, which required special memory managers to allow DOS to handle more than 640KB of RAM at once.

Virtual memory is RAM swapped with a blank space on the hard drive to artificially extend available RAM. 286 was a "real mode" chip, and couldn't do that, though Minix had a hack of some kind that sort of could do it IIRC. Normally you need a 386 or above to have virtual memory.

Meanwhile, in a far off corner of the galaxy...

The Yor Collective have been defeated! The Torian Confederation beat them into submission, and they finally surrendered their remaining worlds to me. Hooray!

Meanwhile I had formed an alliance with the Terrans and the Altarians. The Terrans declared war on the Altarians and asked me for help. I refused, but still managed to keep our alliance. I didn't want them getting too powerful, and decided I was better off dealing with two smaller empires instead of one larger one. The Terrans had the largest military in the galaxy, and I didn't want to risk them gaining the upper hand, so I funneled money to the Altarians to help even out the battle. The Drengin then declared war on the Altarians, and I rushed to their aid. Within a few years I had destroyed all of their starbases, their entire fleet, and I had their homeworld surrounded. I had given the Archeans a ton of money to ally with me, and then the Drengin surrendered, granting me a diplomatic victory!

The stats were quite interesting. I never had the best technology or the most powerful military, but I was an economic powerhouse. My weekly income was over 10x that of the second-richest empire. Wow! With all that cash I was able to purchase buildings and ships outright, keeping myself in the game and allowing me to quickly create a presence in every sector.

I'm going to celebrate my hard-earned victory by opening a beer.

Yes, extended memory, not virtual. That was the bane of my existence back in the day.

It should run on this mac but it's getting to old to do much of anything. Running a video on this makes the fans run with the machine getting very hot. Same with trying to run a game.

I was just doing my budget for the rest of the year. There isn't any room for anything fun like PC parts or a new laptop. The good is by the end of the year we will be almost debt free. Then we need to work on getting a newer car.

I'm canceling my pre-order for the AssCreed Vita. I just can't afford that this year.

I was lucky enough to skip that phase right to the days of built in EMM managers like DOS4GW, like what booted with Doom and the like, so I thankfully never had to deal with it.
