Anyone Playing Spec Ops: The Line?

Wondering if I should pull the trigger on this as I have Amazon credit available and the game's on sale for $49.85.

was a better deal when it was on sale for $25 (and it still is for PC).
It's a 3rd person shooter, very gears of wars-like. I'm digging it so far. Heard great things about the story, but right now I don't see it (and I'm halfway through).

I'd wait until cheaper personally. $25 was a fair price for that game.

It really reminded me of Bulletstorm without the SciFi stuff and with a more dramatic storyline. It's nothing that special really. Everyone's going nuts about how they portray the moral choices of the characters.... I don't see any of that. Yeah, so some enemies will writhe on the ground, which is kind of interesting, and sometimes you'll get a conversation before you have to take out the enemy. Nothing really groundbreaking there.

The game is as linear as it gets and stealth is incredibly limited, and it usually boils down to you being in a shootout a few seconds later than if you had failed the stealth portion.

The controls are okay, but the placement of some action keys/buttons make no sense on the 360 layout.

I do like the aesthetics, what with the sand and Dubai and everything. There's one scene where they're walking against an orange desert/sun backdrop and it's just beautiful, looks like a painting.

Fun. Criminally short and brutally linear. I would rent it again for 5 bucks tops. But a fun 3-4 hours.

The changes that characters can go through is very detailed and changes depending on how you play but the game doesn't draw attention to it. It actually during the gameplay itself. My guys reacted a couple different ways to the same scene and each felt very dramatic and important. That was cool.

But short.
As in shorter than this post

I actually liked how this looked way more than other shooters in the military genre. But if it's real short i'll wait for the bargain bin

I'm really digging this shortness.

Comments, not the game. Although it's almost making want to give it ago. Although other peoples short is my 15 hours.

3-4 hours? Yeah, that's pretty short. For that lenght I'd expect it to be either cheaper, or incredibly awesome for the whole time, or both.

I've gotta be close to the end now. I am having a blast, but I'd be pissed if I'd paid $60 for it.

Ya 25 would be the absolute limit for the game. Its just too short. Some ok stuff going on and a solid 7. But the very linear gunplay and short length brutalize it.

Now...if they did this episodic I would be there. 3-4 hours in bits would be great slowly unfolding the changes.

I can't imagine it being longer.
It was a short brutal story that was highly focused.
It went places that games don't go, and said things games don't say.

It did the whole "No Russian" type of thing RIGHT, and it used the gameplay similar to how BioShock did. In that actions in the story feel like they are driven by the player, and YOU pull the trigger, you had the choice, right?

Even the loading screens said interesting things that made you think about choices in the game.
Once you get closer to the ending, the truth becomes a little obvious. It's not something that hasn't been done before. Though few movies/games do it as effectively as Spec-Ops has.

The White Phospher Scene.
It did the whole CoD 4 black/white thing and then it made you walk through the destruction and realize the destruction and death you cause.

The whole game was about causing terrible death and destruction, and it being the players fault. I pulled the trigger, I made the choice. Yeah, I felt I didn't have a choice in doing it, but the thing is.. I could have walked away. Just like the game said. So yeah, it was like Bioshock.. but less sci-fi.

Took me 5 hours to finish the campaign, including going back to my last save file to check out the alternate endings. Generic, by-the-books shooter with a surprisingly good story. Not unlike Apocalypse Now in regards to the story's direction. It's the direction I wish the Modern Warfare series took (Black Ops was close, but it was a little too silly for me).

I wouldn't pay full price for it, and I certainly didn't (I took advantage of the 50% off deal on Amazon). I think I got my money's worth out of it, though.

It's short, and art house. I'd recommend renting over buying, if anything.

If soon is 6 months from now

My biggest gripe with this game I have never played is the extremely generic name. It sounds very low budget. Like Shadow Harvest: Phantom Ops on Steam. Wow, what a generic pile of garbage that was. And yet I hear this game is not all that bad. Just poorly named really.

Necro time...I grabbed this over the holiday during to Steam sale to see what the all of the fuss was over the SP. I think I paid around $12 or so and I definitely got my money's worth. It took me one long night (6~7 hours) to play through it, but it was worth it to see a game that treated the horrors of war as something horrible, along with what it does to people that see that kind of thing. It's a bit clumsy at times in what it's trying to communicate, but it was well worth the movie ticket price.

I didn't play any MP, so no idea how good or bland it might be. If you are grabbing this game, get it for the message, the cool sand tech, the abandoned Dubai and 200 story buildings almost covered by a massive dune (one of the most interesting vistas I've seen in a game).
