Dungeons of Dredmor: Conquest of the Wizardlands DLC Announced

One of our favorites is getting another expansion, only a short while after it's last one.

Gaslamp Games today unveiled the Conquest of the Wizardlands DLC for Dungeons of Dredmor. You get the usual new monsters (Cloud Gremlins), classes (Bankster, Communist, Paranormal Investigator & more) and weapon types (Daggers and Polearms). But the big additions are the new, enhanced stealth system and the crusting system. Yes, now you can encrust your weapons to enhance them. Oh, and they've also added a portable Pocket Dimension, in which you can store your crap valuable treasure.

For the full list of additions click the 'more' button.

Conquest of the Wizardlands will cost $2.99 and be available "Pretty Darned Quick[ly]".

I've played DoD more this month than Diablo 3, easily. If only because I finally got a build that doesn't kill me in the first 3 floors....

Unarmed, Psionics, Archeology, Tinkering, Master At Arms and the last two are up to you (I personally take Beserker for melee DPS and Ley Walker for fast mana regen to boost the Psionics offensive spells). Arch and Tinkering give you enough trap defuse skill to get you through the first three floors with Arch's "Send It To The Museum" skill being priceless for early quick XP, MaA for the armor at the start, Unarmed lets you dual wield shields for maximum defensive bonuses and Psionics provides heals, ranged attack and psionic shove to get those pesky artifacts.

Fun fact: fewer people have Named the Expansion Pack than died at the hands of Lord Dredmor.

I can understand that. You have to actually *get* to LD to get killed by him. And often, if you've gotten all that way, you've got a pretty badass build ready to take him down.

Or a single clockwork bolt.

Lekon forgets to mention that there's an item in the game named after him, so he knows what he'd talking about

I think you read my post backwards. You're only furthering my point.

He has more cameos than just an item! He's got an inscription on level 2.

Oh no, I'm agreeing with your point. I'm saying it's hard to get killed by Dredmor, since well, you have to get there (Yeah right) and then die (Not *as* likely if you got there)

Also, as far as I know, I have 3 cameos in Dredmor. The Robe, a tomb, and an inscription that randomly shows up. I've also got a cameo in Desktop Dungeons involving goats that want to die for my glory. That one's a bit more creepy.

I'm not sure how making dying to Dredmor so clearly unlikely makes it understandable that even FEWER people have Named the Expansion Pack

Ooooh, If you're focusing more on the naming part, then yeah. Most people don't realize UI elements might be clickable. Really, how often do games let you do that? I see people asking all the time how to get the "I'm a Dev!" achievement, and saying "Wait, click what?"

On that note, what did everyone name their expansion?

Yeah, see, I knew you had it backwards A sublimely simple thing anyone can do without even playing the game has been achieved less than an obscenely difficult thing that requires both supreme success AND epic failure. That was my fun fact.

I named my expansion, "The Mystery Walrus of All-Thyme," which has been described by reviewer Ten19 as "delicious." Don't forget to tell us yours, Lekon!

Hah! I wish mine was more witty, but really, it is just "Project Odin is PEOPLE!". Awhile ago it was "A clockwork bolt in time saves my arse"

The clockwork bolt thing is a joke from the original beta. Back then there were maybe 3 or 4 of us who could get to Dredmor on a semi regular basis.

I get down there, write in IRC "Okay, found Dred" One of the devs (Nick) says "Great! I just re-balanced him, tell me how the fight goes." I fire one clockwork bolt to start the fight, Dredmor dies instantly. Nick was not pleased. Quite confused and baffled even. Turns out clockwork bolts had a decimal point off or some such that made them nukes.

Ah, beta bugs.

Wait, you can actually name it yourself? I wondered why they called it that, and why it had such a strange "name" in the DLC screen.

Love this game. I might even go back to attempting to try the crafting trees now that they're adding item storage.

Also, I will master the Communist tree, but I expect Ivan Drago powers. If the final skill isn't called "I must break you" I might be disappointed.

Yeah, I know! And I find it endlessly hilarious how many people just take the expansion's name for granted. Changing the expansion name was the very first thing I tried when it came out. YOU HAVE TO NAME THE EXPANSION PACK!
