PC Platformers

We all know that platformers are one gametype that's not very popular on the PC due to the keyboard not being such a great way to play these games.

However, we've had Jazz Jackrabbit and Pitfall and in the past.

And now, I think with the popularity of Indie Games, we're getting some great platformers coming in and the fact that Microsoft's Xbox 360 controller is compatible with the PC helps a lot I think.

We've got Braid with it's wacky time puzzles and serious story, Super Meat Boy with it's top notch controls, Limbo with it's emo story and strange puzzles, Psychonauts that's just out of this world, Rayman Origins with great retro style gameplay, Terraria with it's strange mix of RPG, Minecraft and other insanity, Trine 1 & 2 that brings AAA quality to platformers, VVVVV with it's insanity and strange controls, Gish with it's emo physics based puzzles and Rochard with it's fat man!

All amazing games, and I'd highly recommend you pick them up, especially if they're on sale on steam. These games are just pure fun and I think one of the remaining game types that keep pure simplicity as a key gameplay mechanic. They may have tough puzzles, but they're not going to have a billions statistics for you to go over.

So, what's you're favorite PC Platformer? Which one do you keep coming back to?

I've recently gotten my mitts on Tomb Raider: Guardian of Light and it's simply amazing, though a bit more complicated than the others I've been praising above.

It's not a traditional horizontal platformer, it's an isometric platformer and that's just fine because this game has some of the best "feel" for the movement of the character that I've ever experienced in any game. It just feels right, the way any isometric characters should move. Lara moves with a strange floaty but weighted movement and it's just a joy to have her run & jump while shooting baddies and navigating the world. Some of the puzzles are headscratchers and some rely on quick reflexes. Most chapters are 10-20 minutes long, so I can safely say it's a casual game. It also has co-op that's lauded for being pretty darn good, however I haven't tried that as of yet.

Seriously, you guys have to go try this game if you've been itching for a game that's FUN. A lot of PC games released recently seem to forget that key element. Frankly it's been a long time where I just smiled the whole time playing a game because I was enjoying myself so much.

The one I think most fondly of in the last few years is definitely VVVVVV. So much fun with that game.

Another game I like is Tobe's Vertical Adventure

Don't forget Spelunky as well.

V is not a platformer. It's a twitch puzzler which looks like a platformer. Fantastic game though.

There's Rayman...

Also, what's emo physics?

Sorry, didn't read any of this thread.

Just clicked on it due to the interest in the topic, and was immediately amused by the fact that the Lara Croft video preview is nothing but cleavage.

Best part is, I don't think that image even appears in the video.

Lara does have a certain amount of... feminine appeal that must be used in marketing. Boobs are always relevant in marketing. It's one of the first commandments of marketing, I'm sure of it.

Psychonauts, with Super Meat Boy as runner-up.
Edit: I actually bought Psychonauts on Steam this weekend just because they put out the digital versions of the soundtracks. I've been wanting the Meat Circus theme for a fair few years.
