Don't think, just answer!
A friend of mine who is not a gamer, but has an appreciation for them asked me today with sincere curiosity what my favorite video game is. Obviously that question is immensely difficult to answer what with there being so many incredible gaming experiences under my belt (I am sure this applies to most of you as well), and so many of them being so vastly different from one another. Seriously. What's better? Red Dead Redemption or Portal 2?
The first thing that popped in my mind was the Assassin's Creed franchise. So I went with that and the more I think about it, the more I feel that may be the truth. Right now, don't think. Just answer. Favorite game. What it it? |

The first one that popped into my head was Portal 2, but Mass Effect 2 is close behind.

Resident Evil will always be my favorite game.
There are many others that should be mentioned though. Red Dead Redemption, Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, Elder Scrolls, etc.

Super Metroid.
There are many other games that I've probably enjoyed more on the first playthrough, but with Super Metroid I can play through it multiple times and still get at least 95% of the enjoyment out of it as I did the first time. |

Super Metroid!
I am still playing that bad boy today. On my cell phone, on an emulator. Any game that gets played for this long has to be my favorite. Sorry Halo CE. Edit: Troggles! High five! |

Oh...so closely tied with Bard's Tale 1 in my mind. Bard's Tale has so many more great moments in my young life though I can jump into M&M:WoX and love the experience anytime (like recently).
I was going to say, initially, Civilization because that is another game that I can love, but there have been so many iterations. |

Splinter Cell was the first thing that came to mind. Then Mass Effect. Then (though short-lived) Dark Cloud.

TF2 would probably have to be my choice. I have spent more time with it than any other game.
EDIT: Although WoW might come close. |

Zelda. Or Quake. Wasted too much time on both and both got me really (REALLY) into games.

Journey. Would have said Resident Evil 4 before I played Journey.
