How much have you spent on Free-To-Play games?

Roughly estimate how much money you've spent across all Free-To-Play games, including mobile titles.

When considering what is and isn't a F2P title:
  • A free version of the game is available that isn't just a demo or trial.
  • If you bought a game that had an alternate free option at launch, count those towards your total.
  • If you previously bought the game but it later became F2P, count only purchases after that transition.
  • If there is an optional subscription fee for a F2P title that unlocks additional content, count any subscription payments.

Just a second. Have to do some heavy arithmetic here. Think-a, think-a, think.

...

Got it! $8.

For myself, I've spent a few bucks downloading some content for a handful of free iOS titles, but I'm fairly certain the final total comes out to under $10.

Nothing. Not that I’m against the model, I just haven’t found a game in that model that I want to play more than the other games I already have sitting around. I have seen a few FTPMMOs that have interested me, but I don’t have the time for an MMO.

I have paid for games that have gone on to be free to play, but I won't count those. I haven't spent any money on games within the model, but I am not opposed to doing so. I just haven't found anything to push me to it.

I'm with Gorvi. I just haven't found a game that had this model that I wanted to bother with.

$10 - $50...some TF2 stuff, some coins here and there in some F2P games...not a whole lot and always justified by how much more fun I get out of a game because of the purchase.

Oh, the 8 bucks were for a 2-week booster on Tribes: Ascend.

Probably like £60 on League of Legends and £100 or so on PoxNora. Those are the only F2P games I've ever enjoyed enough to put money into.

I'm over $100 I think. I spent probably $50 or so on World of Tanks, something like $20 on Star Trek Online (after it went F2P), and maybe $10 on Tribes. After that I'm sure I've dropped $5 here and there on other small things that I've forgotten about, so I'll say $100+.

Maybe 40$ on ddo, a bargain compared to subscription mmos. Will never play another non f2p mmo at this point.

Also a stupid amount ... 200ish on magic the gathering years back before f2p really existed.

About $120, let's say.

League of Legends: $100

Everything else: Maybe $10-$20

I will say this: If a game basically requires me to purchase shit, but claims to be F2P, I won't be buying anything from them. That means if the XP rate is too slow by default, or you can't fully enjoy the game in some way (Champions Online, I'm looking at you), they get no money from me.

Between World of Tanks and Team Fortress 2 over a hundred bucks for sure.
I'm terrified of how much I will spend on Mechwarrior Online.

For the people who have spent money on F2P, what did you buy? Cosmetic items? Levels? EXP boosts? Conveniences? Characters?

Edit: Adding what I bought.

DDO - About $70. $45 of that was for the VIP subscription fee which gives you access to all the content. The other $25 was for a really expensive tome that gives your character a slight stat boost. You can get these in-game, but they are very expensive and rare.

Super MNC - $10 to unlock a pro.

League of Legends - ~$60 with all but about $5 spent on champion unlocks (bought one skin).

Atlantica Online - Eastern F2P MMO. You could sell the paid for currency for in-game currency, so I did that once. . . stopped playing about 3 days later after the new wore off. Big waste of money.

$110 - Content unlocks (playable characters or game content)
$45 - Game Cheats (permanent ones. I hate temporary boosts).
$5 - A Warwick skin that was on sale when I didn't have enough points for another champion unlock.

I'm obviously all about content, but I can also be tempted to buy cheats too. Cosmetic crap only gets bought if it is cheap enough to be bought with leftover in-game currency.

I wouldn't consider the original Guild Wars F2P. It was a full-price retail title that just didn't have a subscription fee.

Well, it doesn't change my survey answer. I'm still well over $100.
