Saints' Row 3 Getting Standalone Expansion 'Enter the Dominatrix'

THQ and Volition have announced a standalone expansion for Saints' Row The Third. Starting this fall you'll be able to Enter the Dominatrix and gain, in the words of THQ EVP Danny Bilson, "Freaking super powers". How do you get superpowers? Good question.

Saints Row: The Third - Enter the Dominatrix picks up immediately following the events of Saints Row: The Third. For centuries, alien warlord Zinyak has eyed Earth and its precious natural resources and females with a watchful eye. As he prepares an armada for invasion, he has only one worry: the Third Street Saints.

Once a simple street gang from Stilwater, the Saints have evolved into a global empire, replete with bombastic TV advertising and tasteful consumer products, the kind of TV advertising and consumer products that would give any alien warlord pause. Clearly, the Saints are the biggest badasses on Earth.

Now, in order to prepare his forces for domination, Zinyak captures the leader of the Saints and imprisons him in an elaborate virtual reality simulation. This simulation program looks and feels like Steelport, but it is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth. Here, you are a slave. Welcome… to the Dominatrix.

For the record, that would probably be the most realistic and subtle storyline in Saints' Row 3, so it's not really a stretch. But the format is strange.

It's a standalone expansion, which won't be included in the just completed Season Pass for SR3. Furthermore, Joystiq has confirmed that Enter the Dominatrix will be a retail only product, so it's not as much an expansion as a side story which can import your saves from SR3. THQ says more will be revealed on ETD this summer, likely at E3.

So can I play this without owning SR3? This sounds like it'd be fun to pick up at an attractive price point ($20). I haven't played any SR game before, but I find this interesting.

This news story also feels like a cautionary tale about buying DLC season passes without knowing the DLC schedule/having a guarantee that you will actually be getting all of it.

Why does a Season Pass have to include all DLC? The only real question is whether the content you get with a Season Pass is worth the price of admission. I actually just played SR3 the other day for the first time in several months, so I haven't even touched the three pieces of DLC that I got with the Season Pass, but it's not going to take much to keep SR3 as one of the better values for my money for the last year. ME3 and Skyrim beat it, but not much else is close.

I'll pick it up. I enjoyed the main game quite a bit, and this sounds really cool. Haven't picked up any DLC since most of it has been bullshit, but I'm up for more carnage.

I will get it on 360. I had the crappy season pass but at least the game packs were fun. Loved SR3 and look forward to more, hopefully its priced right.
