Kindle Decisions
I'm thinking of getting myself a Kindle. However, there are so many choices. What are everyone's thoughts about whichd Kindle to get. Regular, Touch, Keyboard? I have a smart phone for web surfing, and I'm not a book fiend so I don't think I need the 3G. Also, I'm pretty sure I want to avoid the ads unless someone has other thoughts.

I have the newest Kindle Touch, ad-supported, and it's a wonderful device. Compact, light, and easy to use. It's the only Kindle I've ever had, but it's impressed people I know that have older ones.
The ads are not intrusive at all. Essentially, it replaces the sleep-screen wallpaper with an ad when you turn the device off, and you get small banner ads at the bottom of the home menu. When reading books there are no ads at all. |

Get the non-touch Kindle without 3G. Like Ink said, the ads aren't that bad on the ad supported one, but the battery life is much better on the non-touch Kindles. With wi-fi/3G only enabled when I need to DL a new book I only have to charge it once every 3-4 weeks with modest usage.

I have an old kindle keyboard gen 2 and my wife recently got a new ad supported basic kindle (non-touch) and it is sweet especially for 79 bucks. adn she gets some good deals on amazon stuff with the ads.

I have an ad-supported Touch, and I wish I had gotten the non-Touch. I used to have a Gen 2 Kindle, which I loved, but gave to my dad and got this one. Other than the size and the battery life, I liked my old one more. I am thinking about getting a non-touch at the moment.

I have the no-ad Kindle Touch. It is awesome. From what I hear the ad version is great as well. Highly recommend it.

Since I do almost all of my book shopping on the computer through the website, I almost never need to do anything with the keyboard. For me, the touch screen makes it much harder to use with just one hand, and I find I'm always accidentally flipping pages or navigating to some random place because I accidentally press the screen while rolling over in bed or something. I liked the edge buttons on the Kindle 2, and I imagine a non-touch basic kindle would be about the same.
If you were planning on playing games or doing a lot of shopping from the kindle itself, I'd probably recommend the Touch, just because it makes selecting and entering text much easier. But for everything else, I think the non-touch models are superior. |

If you are still undecided, try Target. ADD believes you can try out the different models there.

I can vouch for both the Kindle Touch(which my wife owns), and my Kindle Fire. Both are well built, sturdy, and fast. The Fire is like a huge android powered iPod touch. and it costs less than one. Either one of those are fine choices IMO.

My life for Aiur!

I was in Target tonight and you can try out the base model, touch, and the Fire.
I have the add supported Kindle Touch. I can use it easily with one hand, and while it slips sometimes and the page I am goes awry, usually to the next chapter, easily go back a few pages to get to the right page. My battery life is about a month though. I shop on the website through my laptop, so what wifi is used is just for downloading updates and syncing.
