My experience:
I did do my research prior to going, but honestly that consisted of me googling shit the day before. My wife set up the appointment and I just tried to put it out of my head. We have three children and our youngest is a special needs child. So any mental issues on my part regarding sterilization were a non factor. My only reservations revolved around surgery on my testicles. So fast forward to yesterday. I go to the office and check in. Shit moved so fast I really didn't have a chance to second guess myself or wuss out. They did supply me with a Valium to take away the nerves a bit. It helped. The doctor came in and checked me out. Said he would walk me through it and it would take about 15 minutes. Let me stop here a second. In my head I fully envisioned this feeling like a horrible smack in the nuts combined with tugging and cutting. Then followed by that terrible nausea feeling and headache that you associate with a kick to the balls. I was wrong. So to begin, hey of course clean the area with that nasty iodine stuff. No issues so far. Then comes the numbing agent. It's a shot. In the sack and in the Vas, both sides. This sucked. Again not the pain I was expecting and tolerable. Much more so than I thought. All I felt was a bee sting in the sack, followed by strange pressure as the novocane is injected into both tubes. After about 30 seconds I felt no pain at all. The balls never get messed with. Aside from being moved around to get at the Vas tubes. I never even felt the hole being punched into my sack. I relaxed quite a bit and the doctor and I had a conversation about cars while the rest of the surgery was performed. They pull the vas tubes out one at a time... Cut them and cauterize them. Mentally it was a bit disturbing because I looked. I'm not grossed out by blood but I didn't factor in the fact that even though blood and guts don't bother me, your brain has a hard time processing it when it's being done to your own body. Also the tubes are sheathed in what I will describe as muscle/gristle. And make a horrendously nasty sound when cut. Like scissors cutting tough uncooked steak. All in all not bad. And again. I'm an educated man and realize that the testicles really have nothing to do with this surgery, but mentally I had a hard time separating the boys from the procedure in my head. No pain leaving. Then the numbing agent wears off... Still nothing like what I expected... It's like a really nasty deep groin pull that no matter how hard you try, you can't get the frozen peas in the right spot to provide full relief. Today I feel the nasty groin pull nagging me, but no other pain. Vicodin and frozen peas help. And even though my testicles are not sore at all I still feel compelled to walk like I just got off a horse all day. One thing to note that is strange. I'm a boxer type of man... For some reason tity whities REALLY help. I had one pair at the bottom of the underwear drawer and after wearing them, I sent the wife to target for more. It seriously helps for some reason. Well that's my story... Aside from a nasty bruised sack and a tiny puncture, it was no where near as bad as I thought. Don't get me wrong... It certainly doesn't feel pleasant, but as I have described, it's not the pain I was expecting or dreading. It's still pain, just different and THANKFULLY Is not related to testicle pain. Hope this wasn't too graphic, but us men tend to be babies about surgery. If I can share and take SOME of the edge off for any of you, then so be it. I know for me at least, I could sever a finger on a band saw and not freak out about it, but he minute "surgery" is discussed, I want to go lock myself in the closet!

Cpl_Punnishment was going to do a post regarding his vasectomy experience, at least that's what I got from the OP.
EDIT: And there it is!

...okay, I'm back for a little question that's been nagging me.
If you have a vasectomy, wouldn't it make sex pretty much pointless due to not being able to experience the... um... the happy ending?

Sperm produced in the testicles makes up a very small percentage of ejaculate. 3-5%, I believe. There is little to no noticeable change to what physically happens when you climax after a vasectomy, nor does it inhibit the pleasurable experience, although some men have mental issues with knowing that they are now sterile.

Great post, Cpl. I think the tighty whities may help just by having a bit of pressure down there. I typically don't wear any underwear at all, so I'll have to keep that in mind if I decide to get it done this summer.

Dork, I cant speak from experience yet as I am healing and am terrified that if I sport a hard on in the next day or two Ill break something down there.
Assume that if I DON'T report back, all is good.. Ejaculate is 99% seminal fluid and 1% sperm. With a vasectomy, they cut the tubes that feed the sperm through the plumbing, the rest of the money shot is still there and very much functional.

Tighty whities might help because they take the weight away by supporting it across the hips.

Well, this machine is getting out of the production business and will from this point on only be for entertainment and enjoyment.

Couple of things to note: Tighter underwear does actually help and is recommended to reduce potential swelling. The other is a bit more amusing and/or disturbing in that in rare cases the tubes manage to fix themselves after the op. Isn't the human body a great bit of biology?

Thanks! Yeah, we got engaged back in November then two weeks later found out she was pregnant, even though she was told that was highly unlikely for years. Later we found out it was twins, which is even crazier. So now we have a little boy and girl due in July, I still can't believe it sometimes.
Hey!

Thanks! And not really, I just got incredibly lucky and met an amazing woman, I've never been happier. It seems hard to believe for me, but it's almost two years now since my wife and I split, but damn am I glad that happened.

This is cool - we've went from discussing vasectomies to Gorvi's new lady and twins.
Congrats, Gorvi!
