Since I am a long time member and came over with the great exodus back in the day. Admittedly more of a lurker than a contributor. Certainly not due to my lack of an outgoing personality, but 100% due to my busy schedule. And since many of you share some pretty wild stuff on here and are not subject to flaming, on the contrary it tends to skew toward normal conversation and rational discussion. I wanted to vent somewhere about what I just had done to myself.

Vasectomy.

Not what I was expecting at all.

I read an article recently which included a very long and detailed description of the procedure and the aftermath. It was...unnerving. Still, my girlfriend was in incredible pain for most of a week after getting her IUD, so it's my turn next.

The biggest piece of advice from the article: Don't be afraid to ask for more local anesthesia.

The only long term negative I've read of it is a small number of men will feel significant pain for months afterward. If you're done having children and you're sure of it a vasectomy seems like the best way to go from what I've been able to find out.

My wife had a tubal ligation, so I've been saved from the knife. If that's the route you want to go, I say do it. I obviously haven't had it done myself, but I've heard the procedure is barely what you would consider invasive these days.

Really? My wife has had an IUD twice and there wasn't any pain involved. That's too bad.

Yeah betweeen the two definitely do a vasectomy. Tying the tubes is an invasive abdominal surgery and can have complications, while getting snipped is pretty much in and out.
