Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition Announced

In January this year fans of Bioware's seminal Dungeons and Dragons adaptation; Baldur's Gate, were excited by the appearance of a new Baldur's gate website.

The rumour mill has been churning ever since, but now Atari and Wizards of the Coast have cast some light on what to expect.

Quote:
Atari, Wizards of the Coast, and Overhaul Games are pleased to announce work has begun on the Enhanced Edition of Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate II.

Then again Beamdog is made up of former Bioware people and, I believe, Trent Oster was one of the original devs. The also did the HD polish of MDK2.

I love this news. I tried playing Baldurs Game last year because I missed it when it was big and I just couldn't get over the graphics. I hope this includes HDfication so I can enjoy it.

I will have to buy this, probably my favourite RPG of that time. I do hope they add the late patched dev improvements to the end of Throne of Baal

Just fix the pathfinding and I'm happy. I've never seen worse pathfinding than BG 1&2.

I think the interface needs some modernising but I would be interested in this, BG2 being one of my absolute favourite games of all time.

I'm looking forward to this as I never played the games when they were out originally. This looks like a nice opportunity to make up for that.

I found it worse in BG1. It felt like they realised by BG2 that making dungeons consist of a lot of narrow passages was a bad idea.

You know you can increase the pathfinding in options for faster CPUs, right? Though it won't totally stop the party shuffle-dance.

I'm sorry to say that I bought BG 1 & 2 and Planescape when they came out, played a few hours of each, but then got distracted. By the time I came back to them years later, I didn't like the interface and the graphics were bothersome. I read somewhere else yesterday that they're adding new content to the games, which is nice, but I really hope they do more than just as a bit of spit polish to the engine.

I do, however, really like that we're starting to see more remakes/HD editions of older games, and I hope it continues with more classic games.

I really enjoyed the first Baldur's Gate, although I never played the sequel.

I've seen rumors elsewhere that this could be released on iOS or even Facebook. I hope neither of those is true, eep!

Cautiously optimistic about this. Heavy on the bottom cautious.

Yeah I really don't see what the problem is exactly. It's petulant.
